What are the benefits of buying a Discovery from Mac1 opposed to getting it from Pyramid air or some other online dealer?
-
He polishes pellet lead in, re crowns barrell, installs a power adjuster, installs a different O-ring, and refines the trigger.
For all this work you pay an additional $11 over what most charge ($239). You loose out on the free shipping but he ships for about $11.00, and if you live in CA you loose out on the tax.
If you are outside of CA you pay $22 more than you would from what others charge.
I have a stock one that I have been fidgeting with for a few months. I called him on Monday and bought another that he just got done with. I'm "working from home" today waiting for the UPS truck.

Everything 5thumbs says is true. I bought a Disco in .22 cal from Tim at Mac1 and I know 5 other people that have got their Discos there too. We are all very pleased with the added tune that he performs on the guns. Mine shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards.
-
I agree that Tim does good work . Does he locktite the power adjuster screw before shipping the rifle ? I have heard two people say they can not move the adjuster .Marvin
-
I can move mine so I would have to say no. I only live a few miles from Mac1 and have had Tim do aftermarket work on a number of my airguns. My experience is that if Tim locktite's something you will know it.

OK, my first .177 Disco/pump was bought at Impact Air Gun's closeout sale. cant complain at all since he discounted it significantly. I tore that thing apart 4 times to do trigger tunes, polish pellet inlet, moved barrell bands around countless times (I have a TKO muzzle brake on it). Got to the point where I could get a subset of decent groups at 25 yards, but some of them were still a bit variable (not bad and still accuate). Well I got my Disco from Mac 1 today (again in .177). All I did was transfer the scope (Legend), a 2nd O-ring barrel band, and my TKO brake. After zeroing in, BAM, tight groups. Not necessariliy better than the best groups I obtained with my 1st disco, but most of them are that tight. No monkeying around. I't is better than my stock one even after I tinkered with it quite a bit. Liturally 45 minutes after I got it I could tell it was better!
I do have a comment on the power adjuster. It is very tight. I tried to move it and could not, not even a little bit. I get a set of pliers but decided not to force it. I will call Tim tomorrow and ask.

Thanks guys for all your imput. I really appreciate it. How does the power adjuster work?
-
There is a little spring that pushes a weight (hammer) once the trigger is pulled. The weight bangs into a valve that is temporarily opened to release the air that propels the pellet. So, if you compress that spring with a power adjuster (essentially a screw that pushes the spring), it pushes the hammer harder and open the valve more (more air).

What is the cost for the tune.?

It cost about $11 more if you buy from Mac1 relative to other vendor's price ($239) , however if you are relying on some vendor's "free shipping" you have to splurge another $11 (approximate) for shipping. If you send it to him I THINK it is about $60, but you would best talk to him about it.

yes, i bought a .177 disco from pyrimid air, with the no lemmon guarantee. then i bought a .22 from mac 1. the 177 lasted 11 days and was plasting stuff in my face. i considered my options, and sent it to mac 1 for service. he fixed it, and both guns are still working good, and shoot well. john

likewise. the mac1 22cal that i've had is not givin me any trouble and continues to be a strong shooter.
-
to sum it all up. for a few dollars more you get a gun that is right and works properly the first time. john
