: quest barrel droop?
: srqairhead January 13, 2009, 11:09:05 AM
Hi All,

newbie here and have been reading this forum now for a few weeks..my head is spinning!..anyway I have a question..when I look at the barrel on my quest it seems to droop some from the action part (if that makes sense to you). When i cock the rifle then bring it back to lock it has this space between...see photo...is that normal?

thanks
Tim

Your Good to go!!! It's not going to be flush with the action,....look how the fork is cut. If you mean the area where the o-ring contacts the port hole, there is a VERY slight minute space. Check the area around the port and see if there's any signs of blow out on the outside of the o-ring mark, then you might want to shim that,....but I doubt you'll get that much of an improved velocity gain if you need it.  If your Quest has some droop ( hitting low at the POA as my variant did), you might find that a shim or two in the rear ring will solve any droop,...if you are using a scope that is!?!?!?! If not enough, you will be better off using an adjustable 'one-piece'. But as far as your lock up,....Looks the same as mine!!!! Welcome to the GTA,....A Great Place To BE!!!tjk
NPS Not to nag, because I don't clean my rifles (the outside) everytime I shoot. I just keep the breech area wiped of with a "lead thumb". Just keep your other hand on to the barrel when it's broken down!!!! And SAFETY ON :emoticon:

thanks for input...greatly appreciated. Have yet to put a scope on it, have put 500 pellets through it and am enjoying the *&&^% out of it. Offhand with the sights and have hit 3 for 3 on bushy's and 1 pigeon from 15-20 yds out...and about 480 shots at my local gun range. My concern was when putting the scope (leapers 3x9x32) on it might be waaay off because of my perceived droop.

thanks again
Tim

It may be fine.... what kind of scope mount do you plan on using ???   Like Thomas said, you can use an adjustable mount, although they are a bit pricey compared to the Accushot 1 piece mounts, but they do work....

If you decide to use an Accushot 1 piece mount you can always shim the rear scope ring with 1 or 2 pieces of 35mm film negative,,,, it works like a charm and gives you all the elevation adjustment you need.  If you do decide to shim though be careful when you tighten down the scope ring caps,,,, it is possible to crush your scope tube if you tighten the allen screws to tightly.

Anyway,, let us know how you make out....

Welcome. I have the same gun. About a month old now with around 500 rounds. I used a Gamo one piece mount with the included 3-9X32 and I had no problem with the small amount of perceived droop my barrel appeared to show. It's zeroed at 20 yards with CHP's.I will say the breach seal did need to be shimmed. After that correction it's good to go.
