: just broke another crosman spring on a remington vantage/quest
: spark22 January 13, 2009, 02:23:09 PM
this is the 3rd crosman spring that I have broke this year and will no longer be using them any more! This rifle was bought 11-28-08 and had about 1000rds through it when the spring failed today,it was just breaking in and the groups were getting better when it broke.I will be calling crosman to see if they will repair and pay for shipping or at least send me a new spring or two but I refuse to pay for shipping to have them replace the $5.00 spring. Now it's time to order the JM springs for the 2 crosman springers that have broken springs,IMO these springers are not worth the time or money it takes to keep them shooting my gamos lasted for years nether of the crosmans lasted a few months. If I ever buy another springer it will be a rws for sure!

Diana's are great rifles, and their quality will never be matched by Gamo or Crosman,...with the lower end models! The factory Crosman springs are notoriously brittle as I went through two before I wised up and had it tuned with a Maccarri Tarentella spring. Though it's  not a high-end gun, it was worth getting it repaired, and has become one of my fav hunting rifles. Good luck, tjk
PS avoid useing Lead Free pellets. They kill springers IMO!

I just finished work on another RWS 34, haven't gotten up the nerve to go to the libray to test it yet as it's below 0 and the wind is howling but it doesn't twang with the initial testing. I'll warm it up to room temp then get it tested. Should do real nice as it has the Maccarri kit in it, I changed the Delrin top hat out for a steel one to give it a bit more go....last one I did ran about 720 with 14 gr. pellets and it didn't have the metal TH.............

The Maccarri kit comes with a delrin TH but I thought what the heck lets get it working so I turned one out of steel.....

yea Thomas I dont go for those lead free pellets I use mainly gamo hunters or match or rws meisterkugeln match pellets all run from 7.56 gr to 8 gr so thats not the problem it's just the cheap chinese steel springs will be getting some of those E3650 JM springs for these two guns with some new seals and the lubes and they should be fine. It's just a pain that these guns can't even last 2 months or 2000rds with out breaking.

Just curious Mike, what difference does the material used in the tophat make to the velocity? Is it the weight? Oh yeah, how much does one  cost, inquiring minds want to know? Lol

Well Mike I heard lot of good about your work and one day I will get of of those sweet b-26 you got but my next gun will be a pcp either the marauder or a bsa ultra multi-shot.I like these cheap  crosman guns to keep in my work truck to do some improv hunting but I also work in the worst parts of Ft. Worth you know all the ones you seen on COPS and have had guys try to steal off my bucket truck befor and would just go nuts if they got away with one of my good guns.Infact the last punk that got into my truck tried to take off with with some  bolt-cutters and my gaint cable-cutters only to find how fast this 6'2" 250lbs pole climber can drop off a 25' pole and jump a fence and cut him off, well he drop the tools and ran and was latter caught at the nearby store when I went to get a soda and held him there till the cops came and took him away.

I hope you put a few knots on his head for him before the cops got there, you know-" I don't know what happened to him officer, I think he fell down."Lol

I wish I could have but we were in the middle of a store with cameras so all I could do was hold him till they came to take him away. Now if I could have caught him on the street I would have  torn him apart if I got my hands on him but man was he fast and I can't run that fast with my hooks on I was just lucky that he was as thirsty as I was after chasing him and  there was only one corner store around.

I'm not at all surprised to hear how fast you can run, considering you're a pole climber. I occasionally put on my Buckingham gaffs and saddle to do some tree work around the homestead, and it's the most intense leg workout I've had in a LONG time.  He screwed up trying to steal from someone who does physical WORK for a living. Those poles and trees are just vertical gyms.
I applaud your restraint in not wrapping your bolt cutters around his punk-a$$ head.

Now, running in gaffs is something I don't think I could get the hang of. Just walking in them reminds me of watching a cat walk in wet grass.

it kinda reminds me of Forest Gump when Jenny says run Forest run!

Yeah, it does. You can't run normally in gaffs. He'd really been in deep doodoo if you'd decided to stomp his arse with those spurs.
