I am thinking of purchasing a Discovery but have three concerns/questions. I am going to use this gun solely for target shooting WITHOUT using a scope.
1. Are the iron sites on this gun suitable and if not, is there an after market site option?
2. One reviewer has commented that the barrel flexes slightly near the muzzle and that there should have been another barrel support bracket it that area. Has anyone felt the same and what is, if any or needed, a possible fix for this?
3. Are the triggers adjustable or upgradeable?
Thanks in advance

If you look back through the previous posts in the Discovery Forum you will find the answer to all your questions :)
But,,,,,,, there are trigger mods for the rifle that will make the trigger much nicer. If you feel you want or need another barrel band you can simply buy one from Crosman and easily install it.
As for the iron sight,,,, I can't help you there,,,,, I used to have a discovery but never used the iron sights.....

the sight suck and thats saying it nicely.I've aksed about these peep sights http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=16314 and from what I hear you would have to raise the front sight also to make them work.and you might try these like the #70678 might work http://www.williamsgunsight.com/gunsights/rifle.htm

I like the fire sites. I'm more concerned with the rear site. I'm not trying to rip the quality, but it looks a little flimsy. I really have to see this up close and personal.

1) The fiber optic (iron) sites are nice. However, the things you usually shoot with airguns are small. Airguns need scopes. The iron sights on the Discovery are better than the sights I've had on other airguns.
2) I see no problem with any barrel flex. In fact, I see no flex. Anyway, the most expensive firearms "free float" barrels. This means they are attached to the stock only near the receiver.
3) Officially, the triggers are not adjustable. However, it is the same trigger found on the Crosman 2260. There is much info on the internet on how to polish and smooth these trigger units using common tools.

Viper the rear sight seems sturdy enough but for target shooting the windage adjustment is crude. You losen a lock screw and slide sight,it has no reference makes to help you index it.If you site it for 1 range, power and pellet it would work but it would not be fun to readjust often. Mark
