I ordered a QB-79 a few days ago and I picked up a few air source tanks and an air source adapter. My question is this, let say I finish shooting with CO2 left in the tank and I want to remove the tank. Can I unscrew the tank with the adapter attached to it? Does the adapter act like a check valve? If so, then what is the purpose of the optional on/off valve that some people install on their guns?

You can remove the AirSource bottle with the adaptor on it. THe adaptor acts justlike the valve on a paintball CO2 tank.
I have the on/off valve installed on my '79. It's more "Extra Assurance" for me. Ilike to know when there's no gas flow. It's also a good way to see if any of the seals in the rifle are leaking. Just shut the valve off and let it sit over night. The next morning take a shot. If it's allot lower power than with the valve on, there's a leak.

NOpe...the inexpensive brass adaptors do not have a pin valve in them so you can't unscrew them without shooting out all of the co2. the in-line on/off (it's a Smart Parts on/off) will let you turn the tank off and detach it (but all the gas in the gun will still shoot out)
Rap 4 does make a pin valve 88gr. adaptor...it looks like the business end of a paintball tank that screws onto an 88gr.
Of the two, the in line on/off might be the more useful.

The Crosman AS-PB adaptor I have has a pin valve in it. I can unscrew the bottle and it contains the CO2 no problem?
