Went to AOA today and just got back. WOW! What a pleasure ride that was. I was in Disneyland, pellet gun style. What a huge advantage I had in buying my first PCP. Robert the owner met at 8:30am this morning and we went inside the gun store. My eyes were as big as could be. Pellet guns everywhere. Some of the best in the world. BSA, FX, Day state, RWS, Beamans etc. etc. Robert says shoot anyone you want for as long as you want and chrony each if you want. Started with the Day state lineup. These Day states are not on his web site because they are brand new. All with Harper valves. Kip (I believe his name was, the one on the video's all the time then took over. Started with the Air Ranger 50FPE, the X2, Merlin line and the brand new Huntsman Classic. Then the BSA's. Then the FX's. All the time Kip stayed with me answering any questions and I had a lot. After hours of shooting and chroning the decision were between Air Ranger, Huntsman classic and the FX Cyclone. Air Ranger to much FPE (was afraid accuracy would suffer), Huntsman best handling rifle of all brands but only 23FPE so after much deliberation I decided on the FX Cyclone. Adjustable power settings, extremely quiet and one hole shooting at 20 yards. Added a 45cc bottle to existing air chamber, tube clamp for slings and bi pods and scope rings. I had a Elite 3200 5x15x40 scope to mount and mano mano what a gun. Awaiting fiber tank and hose from Joe Brancato, next week.
And the addiction continues.......................................

Oh my Gawd... that sounds like an absolute BLAST! Literally! Glad you did the trip and wrote about it... man, that makes ME wanna go on sabbatical!
Keep the shiny side up, man....
Thanks for the AOA update!

If this is a 4,500 psi carbon tank -- and you don't have a second stage regulator -- be **very** careful to **just** crack the valve ... slooooooooowwly. You can blow the rifle steem stop walvs in a heartbeat.
:-(
-
Congrats Paul!!!
Which one did you get? Walnut, Synethic, or Beech? We wanna see photos! :D
-
WOW Paul, you had all those guns in front of you. It must of taken you hours to decide..:) What a golden opportunity you had. When I go visit my son in Tucson this year, I am gonna go there and lay on the floor and day dream..:)
Thanks for sharing.
-
What a lucky man you are!!!! Most of us can only dream about a trip like that and shoot all those guns. Well, I guess, when I am gonna die that's where I am going- a place full of air guns and you can shoot them all forever :)
Have a happy time with your new rifle!
-
What an incredible day trip Paul...I just bought a rifle from Kip the other day but would love to actually go in the store. Lets see some pic's of your new BB gun when you can.

MeHavey - Thanks for the advice, I did not know that. I'll look for a second stage regulator.
Their was an old guy standing outside the store when he came up to me and said "gonna buy one of them there
bb guns are you? Yes sir. How much are they gett'in for them? Oooo around $1400. Not one second past He said, " God Dang son are you absolutely out of your mind?". $1400 dollars for a BB gun? Hec, I used to get 'em for $5. You must be on drugs? No sir, just a BB gun addict. This man caught me completely by surprise. He was mad at his son for buying one for $200.
Stocks: I looked at all the walnut stocks and I swear to god I thought they were plastic. Not what I expected at all. What ever they coat it with feels like plastic to me not a true walnut stock. I guess it's just me. I bought a synthetic stock. Just over 5 lbs.

Dave - to dark now, but will tomorrow. Thanks
-
I foresee many happy hours of shooting ahead, Paul :-)! That must have been one damn tough choice, though. Mike had a good point, but the alternative to a second stage reg would be a needle valve. Mike, if I'm wrong, jump in here. Only reason I bring it up, I have a 6K psi needle valve I don't need any more, it's yours if you want it. Call it a gun warming present :-). Let me know, and congrats on an excellent choice. Later.
Dave

Needle valve -- anything to give you fine control over the flow upon/as opening the main valve -- would sure help.
Just remember that even w/ a needle valve the pressure will keep climbing unless you shut it down at/before max
-
Congrats Paul!! I know you very carefully considered all your options for a new rifle. I'm glad you got the right one for you. What a great opportunity to go to AoA and get to spend all that time choosing just the right new shooter. So many of us would just love to have the opportunity to go to a great shop like that one, or any of the other good shops.
-
Peakchick I can remember you saying something like I didn't realize you lived so close to AOA on another thread. You suggested I go there. Boy I'am glad I did. Now when you guys talk about your pellet guns I have probably shot them with the exception of AA guns which is real popular everywhere.
The hunting I will go................
-
Great choice Paul. You're really going to like that Cyclone....read lots of good things on her. If only the Daystate Air Ranger...the 50 FPE one had adjustable power control........ You experienced something lots of airgunners have not experienced.....testing and enjoying all those excellent high-end shooters. Can you see the light hint of green on our faces? heh heh
-
Your right on that note Gamo. If the Daystates had adjustable power settings they would definitely be the leader in the world market. Their guns handle better than any other guns I shot. You would think by looking at the pictures on AOA that the Air Ranger was big and hard to handle. Nothing more could be further from the truth.
Robert gave me a heck of a deal on that Cyclone too just because I came to the store and like the Cardinals. Cash is the key when going to his store. Out the door with all accessories mentioned above and 4 tins of pellets was less than the original price of the gun.

Nice Purchase Paul... I knew making the couple of hour trip would be worth it for you... I wish we had the same opportunity to experience and handle several different models prior to making a purchase. That Cyclone looks great! Also good decision on buying the extended air tube. ...Congrats!!
-
I lightened up the pic's for you.
David

Thanks Dave! P
-
Looks good, Paul. Do you notice much shift in the balance with the tube extension? I've considered getting one for mine, but not sure I like the look, and I really like the balance of my Cyclone as it is. Still, the extra shot capacity would be nice. Congrats again.

AOA has been a good place to spend money on the online/mail order experience, too. I have been treated very well as I have added most of the higher end stuff to my collection through AOA. Great place to buy dream toys whether in person or not.
-
I thought I'd lost my mind (or needed a refund from AOA). :-)
-
One thing is for sure. You can spend a lot of money!
Paul
-
Great photos of your Cyclone Paul...also thanks to Dave1899 for lightening them up. What's the cc of air in the normal tube....and what is it now?
-
gamo - Tube size 168 + 45 pony. The 45cc gives an extra 10 shots on high and probably 30 on low power. As soon as my tank and hose arrives I will do extensive testing.
Thanks - P

Congrats PelletPaul. Made me laugh about the guy who thought you were smokin the wacky tobacky. I did a similar thing back in 1992. I drove to Santa Rosa to the Beeman store. MAN O' MAN!!!! Hog heaven! The full line from $200.00 to $3000.00. I bought a Beeman RX-1 and when I got back to town I couldn't wait to show my dad, so straight to the shop I drove, he says "how much did that cost?" When I told him he said "WHAT!!!!?????" "Have you hit your head or lost your mind?" "You could of bought a 30-06 for that much" I said "Dad, and where am I going to shoot a 30-06 around here?". Never did convince him though. I guess the best way to know is this, seventeen years later I could get every penny I paid for it back. Again congrats and have fun. It's only money and you can't take it with you. But the memories you can.

Hello Paul.
How is your new Cyclone doing? Have not seen any updates...?
-
Johnny - Finally yesterday received my last piece of the puzzle. Been struggling with my CF tank and received the bleeder valve. Long story but in short I'am ready to rock and roll. Yesterday I chronied low power with JSB 15.9. Trying to figure out how to put the numbers on a graph to show. You'll see I posted my first kill on Hunting gate titled Cat/Raven. Tonight I will chrony med. power with 18.0 JSB's. This gun is a dream. Powerful, accurate and quiet. This coming weekend I have entered the "100 yard challenge" on Air Gate with the cyclone and my Diana 54. Here is what I have so far.

Nice numbers there Paul. Looks like you can get lots of shooting in at lower power without much poi change!
I got my s410 out Monday most of the day shooting. It was pretty windy with variable gusts, so made it hard to try to see how good it was shooting. I recorded several strings on my Chrono. I need to go through them just to see what I was getting.
Keep updated. I'm curious to see your 100 yard groups. I did actually shoot some at 100 but I had to aim WAY off to get it to hit the target, so the groupings were very ugly. Actually I would not even call it groups. :o
