: Quiet pellet trap
: grackledown March 01, 2009, 06:28:43 AM
For those of you who are thinking of making your own "Quiet Pellet Trap", I just received 12 bricks of duct seal from hardwareworld.com. They are $1.38 each. Shipping was $9.20, so it comes out to just over $2 per brick. Loews and Home " Despot"  both charge over $3 per brick plus tax, and I didn't have to drive 20 miles round trip to get it. The item# is RNHCR3. Each brick is 1 lb. and measures 1"x2"x61/2".

Here’s a place that has 5 lb bars for 9.99, not as good of a deal, but bigger bars.  Mclendon  Hardware.  Not sure about shipping cost!

: Question about using Duct Seal......
: Leadhead March 03, 2009, 07:21:41 AM
I'm thinkin' that my trap is going to accomodate 8.5x11 inch card stock, so I can print my own targets as I need them. What thickness should the ductseal be inside the trap. I imagine 1 inch is not thick enough, but I don't want to get carried away............

: Dave1899 March 03, 2009, 07:42:36 AM
I use 2" thick in mine.

Hmmmm........I wonder if I should have ordered more than 14 bricks ????  Gonna be close !! Thanks for the info......

you can always add a steel plate in the back for added safety.
: Re: Quiet pellet trap
: Leadhead March 03, 2009, 09:52:01 AM
That might be a good idea........just don't want to start adding too much weight to the trap...........have to bring in a forktruck to move it around the yard........

I feel for ya, Bill. This is my first trap, so I don't have any duct seal at all.(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cry.gif)I emailed them yesterday, and they answered back that it might be 2-3 weeks before they get any in. I got a tree in my side yard that's almost cut in half from lead. (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-surprised.gif)I told them to keep the order as it is...........just have to wait, I guess.

Nice Traps, Gene. I really like that small one, think I'll make one. Should be able to find a cheap supply of playing cards at the "Dollar Store"(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-money-mouth.gif)Is it made of 1x PT ???

Timmy makes them. At least he did make them for a while. He has all the details on the build and materials used. They work great.
