Well, bow season closed yesterday and I ended the day as I always do on the last day of the season, sitting 25 feet up in one of my favorite trees watching the sun fade and darkness set in.  This is the first bow season in many years that I didn't harvest a deer, but then again it's probably because I spent 99% of my time stalking squirrels with one of my air guns.  The bow season here runs from Oct 1st until Dec 31st and I  hunt almost every day of the season, however this season, due to the "air gun  bug" I only went afield with the bow 8 or 9 times, I was just having to much fun popping squirrels.  I never thought anything could pull me away from bowhunting, but these air guns certainly did !!  And everytime I open the freezer and see the pile of cleaned squirrels just waiting to make a delicious meal I smile.  I got my venison this year, a nice doe and a beautiful 8 point buck, but I got them the easy way,,,,, I got them at work after they were hit by cars.

The good news is the small game season runs until the end of February so with the bow season officially closed and my roadkill venison safely tucked away in the freezer, I'll be spending the next 2 months in the woods every chance I get stalking Mr. Bushytail and of course the bunnies. Now if it would just stop raining.  I was tempted to go squirrel hunting today because I was looking out into my backyard at the bird feeders and there were 4 squirrels sitting there in torrential rain munching away.  I figured if the backyard bushytails were out feeding then the "wild" ones should be also, but then I thought about my airgun getting all wet and I plopped back into the easy chair.  Hopefully tomorrow the weather will cooperate.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year.  Good shooting all.

Jeff

Sounds like your ice box is stocked up and thats a good thing. We got about 6in. of snow followed by a ice storm here in S.D. . Didn't bother me, good tracking conditions except the snow froze leaving NO tracks.Varments kinda buckle down in those ice storms but the last couple nights my motion sensor light has been coming on about every couple hours. I've got my light set up facing the corn fields in my backyard.rabbitseverywhere, getting out after the ice up. There coming in and munching on fallen birdseed from my feeders.Even seen two red foxes, which I'm sure are after the rabbits . Have not taken any, my ice box is full and theres no need to kill for a thrill.! Just been scoping them from my laundry room blind he he. As always happy hunting to you. Ed
