: First attempt making a pellet trap......
: Leadhead March 05, 2009, 09:09:08 AM
Well, I decided I better get this made before the snow melts. I planned on hand cutting dovetails to put her together, lol, but that didn't work out to well. I've cut a lot of dovetails, but not in 1-1/2" PT.  :0   Now I just gotta wait for the silly putty to arrive & I'll be all set !!!  :emoticon:

That's the sort of high quality/well-finished shadow box that ought to look really nice as a living room wall hanging... maybe 20 feet from the dining room table?

I noticed you put a piece of cloth or tissue in the barrel of the CFX.
Did you do that to keep the dust out while you were cutting wood or does it have the sniffles?

That a nice box, just need varnish and whola, shadow box and can be mounted on the wall @20 yards. Put a flexi glass and just remove when range is hot!!

Very nice box...I need to get one of those so I don't have to keep changing targets in my little one.(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif)

Mine is similar. I used the dimensions from the Archer Airgun site. i used about 10 bricks of duct seal.I just put it in 2 bricks thick. At 20 yard my .22 cal RS2 penetrates about an inch and I have never had a pellet get to the back of the trap. I just pick out the pellets after awhile and replace that area with new duct seal. If you use a clip board with the center cut out of it  you can make several target holders.

Clipboard is a real good idea.......Simple & Cheap.........I like that !!!!  Especially the cheap part........

Yes I get the clipboards at staples for .99 . You might have to trim it a bit to fit your trap but it works great in mine. I print my targets on 67# paper. that is also at staples for about 6.50 a ream. It is heavy enough that pellets make clean holes.  Screw a carrying handle to the top of the trap because that duct seal makes it pretty heavy. I want to say mine weighs about 20lbs. I get my Duct seal at Lowe's But I work there and with my discount I think I paid about $1.50 a brick. Wood working is my other hobby so once I had some dimensions it took me about an hour to make. I used 3/4 birch ply I had lying around. Total cost was about $25. Always  happy to help out a fellow massachusetts person.

I ordered my Ductseal from hardwareworld.com for $1.38 per brick. With shipping it comes to just over $2.00 a brick. I ordered 14 bricks......hope it's gonna be enough !!!! Are you as tired of this New England weather as I am ???

Yes I have had it with the weather. We got snow on the cape the other day. It made a big mess now it is melting and everything is turning to mud. 14 bricks should do it. Just fit them in whole in 2 layers. Use a sharp putty knife to cut the brick dont tear it off like clay it makes a mess. If you need a few more bricks you should be able to get it locally. They would be in the electrical dept of HD or Lowe's. Let me know how it works out.
