: Removing stock sights from a Shadow 1000?
: Black Mamba June 22, 2006, 03:11:35 PM
I am preparing my Shadow for my new Leaper's 4-16 X 50 scope and have realized I'll never get it on with the mount I have coming unless I remove ALL of the original sighting.

The front has already been replaced by a custom muzzle break.  The rear sight is "removed" but there is still the screw that the elevation knob sits on.  I tried to take it out with a hex key but it won't budge.  In fact, I bent the key.   It almost looks as if it's welded in place but that makes no sense to me.

Anyone have an idea as to how I can get that threaded screw out?

I have a S1K also and went out and looked at mine. Yes it does have a allen head screw there for the adjustment. I had never tried to remove it though. The biggest scope I ever had on it was the 40 mil BSA. I think I tried a high mount to eleaviate any obstruction of the pin. Now ai have a small 30 mil BSA scope on it.

Maybe a couple of grade 8 nuts. Use two and jam the two together on the screw. Then once you have locked the two nuts together on the screw, use a wrench to unscrew and a new allen wrench at the same time. Of course turn the bottom nut counter clock wise at same time as you turn the allen wrench.

I don't know if this will help but be careful not to strip the threads on the screw.

That does actually help Gene.

I'll give that a try.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, I'm sure it wasn't something that took much brain power for you but it worked like a charm and was nearly magical for me!!

Never even needed the hex key.  Came off much easier when I used your "two nut" method.

Thanks Gene.
