Hello all, I got my new Discovery with pump today and was overall pleased with everything except feeding a pellet. The chamber apparently has some problem, and the pellet must gently coaxed in with the bolt. I looked for a takedown guide, but had no luck. I'm not sure how to remove the bolt to get a better look at the chamber. Are there similar guns with " how to" threads I could view? Not sure why Benjamin would not have test fired/or at least inspected guns for obvious problems, like inability of gun to load a pellet.

Hope this helps . Marvin

Hi Marvin, Yes. After looking at the parts blow up, I figured it out. Thanks, Jerry

Oops! No I have not figured out how to remove the bolt. I unscrewed the bolt handle and removed the slotted screw and end cap on the breech. The striker pin is blocking the bolt. Do I have to cock the bolt to get it past the striker? Do I have to remove the allen screw that seems to hold the breach end of the barrel and then slide the entire bolt assembly up and off the gun? The rifle is charged with air and I don't want to have an accidental discharge of the air cylinder! Help!!!

You have to remove the barrel assembly . And with reasonable care there is no danger of having air in the rifle . Unless you cock it and release the hammer it will not discharge and if it does it is only the one small burst of air . Look at the parts diagram and you will see a transfer port tube that goes between the barrel and air tube . Do not lose it it might just fall out when you remove the barrel . Just take your time and watch what you are doing and it will not be a problem . Marvin

Jerry, drain the rifle is you can. You need to remove the barrel band from the air tube and barrel. Cock the bolt and it will reveal a small allen head screw under the probe. It is .050 size allen. Go easy with that one, as it is easy to strip. After that youre done, the rifle comes apart. Remove the set screw on the breech and the barrel and the barrel tube will come out.Polish the inside of the breech, as well as breech end of the barrel. While everything is apart round off the "butt" end of the probe (not the pointy part) for buttery smooth cocking. You can polish the probe as well. Do the same thing with the hammer and the tube it slides in. Clean and degrease and eaither run it dry or slightly lube it with very silicone spray or something similar. Wipe most of it off, just leave a thin film on the surface.
Don't forget to crown the barrel! It does wonders to Disco's accuracy.
Hope this helps

Thank you both for the quick replies. I think I will just shoot the air out and do the disassembly later. Now I feel more comfortable doing the disassembly. Jerry

My memory failed me (again) You don't need to drain the rifle! What you need to do is to remove the endcap first, so the hammer spring pops out. After that therifle is safe. You need to do this anyway to expose the allen screw underneath. Cocking it will only expose part of it.

Thanks again. All this info is definitely helpful. Wish some talented person would do a Discovery takedown procedure with accompaning photos for noobies like myself. Well, I can wish, right?

Grab a camera and get it done .Marvin

Hi Marvin, I have no clue how to even post pictures in an email. .In this case, it would be like the blind leading the blind. Maybe someday I'll learn how. I realy do envy the posters and sellers on various auction sites that post professional quality photos with good descriptions. Jerry

I have had the Disco apart twice today. 2nd time was to refit the metal barrel/air chamber seal which popped out during the first re-assembly! I knew something was wrong when I test fired it and felt blowback from the breach area.I promise to give a step by step verbal disassembly guide in a few days. I'm just too tired tonight.

I messed up my first time at it to . I tried to short cut it , bent the transfer tube . Had to order a new one . Crosman was inventorying and it took 2 months for me to get the tube and get the rifle back together . . Now I just take the time and start with the barrel and work my why back . Its just to long to deal with any other way for me . A well learned lesson on my part. Marvin

Yup, Thats the part! I called it the metal seal, but it is called the tube in the above parts diagram. I must have put it in upside down and I could see it was at like a 45 degree angle when I looked into the breach. Luckily it was not damaged and sealed properly when I got it back in correctly, the second time.
