After a not so good experience with a Gamo Nitro I still wanted a light weight rifle and had been toying with trying a Big Cat for awhile. Well Cabela's put there Big Cat package on sale for $99. That was the tipping point. I scurried on down Last Saturday and picked one out of the thirty or so they had on the floor. Got it home and good for me it was in just as nice condition as the pristine factory sealed box I picked out. Cleaned the bore and loaded up one to see what it would feel and sound like. Lost of kick and quite loud. Enough of that. Into the compressor and into parts it went. The internals were all lubed up even a carefully placed dab of some type of dark colored grease in the appropriate spot on the trigger. Spring even had grease on it. The inspection slip indicated that the gun was made October of last year, pretty recent example of what Gamo is sending out. I cleaned all the factory lubes out, did what I call a de bur, honed the compression chamber, more cleaning. Replaced the seal, put in a JM spring, Tivar guide, new Brass top hat. I then added the secret ingredient, the GRT III trigger and put it back together using JM's lubes. I had been looking for a light weight rifle that was mostly composites (say plastic I guess) that would be fun to shoot. Well I have found it. I added a Leapers 6 X 32 AO Bug Buster on a Leapers compact one piece mount keeping with the light weight theme. I am quite pleased with the gun so far and it makes it very easy to see why so many Big Cat's are out there.

Congrats on your new purchase. Is your BC still as loud after your "tune"? My BC...after 2000+ shots is still loud.......one of the loudest airguns I own. Completely stock except for the GRT III trigger.

I saw that deal at Cabelas.Looked like a really good price.I thought about grabbing one too, but recently bought a new Beeman 1024.I also really want to stick with airguns that are quiet, and wasn't sure about the Big Cat.

It's quieter, no spring twang, but not by much. I stuffed the stock with foam but I think I will try to find some of that electrical compound people are filling there stocks with and see how that works.

Duh factor here. Whats this 'electrical compound' you're refering to? I've heard of using rags, using wxpanding foam, but never electrical compound. TIA,
So how does it shoot after all these mods?

I am going to have to search the forum again to get the name unless someone else can chime in, I think it's some kind of putty like compound used for sealing up junction boxes or something like that. As for shooting, good, and I think more pellets will help a lot. Right now with BSA Wolverines (it's favorite pellet) it's shooting quarter size groups at ten yards. I don't have a chrony but at about ten feet it will punch through a piece of one by pine, my Hunter Elite will only start to punch through at the same distance. So that makes this one of my most Powerful.

Are you talking about "Duct Seal", I have only seen people using that for making a silent pellet trap. I would think it would add lots of weight to the rear of the stock seeing as how the stuff is like clay.
-
Duct Seal it is. I used spray foam in the end. It helped some. But the gun was still not what you could call quiet.

If you use the Duct Seal I would think you are going to add about 4lbs to the weight of the rifle just aa FYI.

They are some sweet inexpensive shooters. Little self expanding foam in the stock and it will be complete. Good job on the mods, she looks good with that compact scope. Have fun and good shooting.
And the duct seal is for target traps. Plummers putty is just as good and 5 x cheaper. 10 lb bucket for 12 bucks instead of 1 lb for 3 bucks. Plummers putty all the way for targets. And man that would really throw the balance off if you filled your stock with it.

Wouldent the plumbers putty dry out, I went with the duct seal for my target box. I only needed 8 bars even shooting my Cat at 10 yards, I just cant put 10 shots in the same place (found that out the hard way).

NAW plumber putty made to stay ply & not as sticky as duct seal may form a slight haze if left open long time that's all(20 some year's plumbing) & sure alot cheaper!!!

The electrical compound is known as Duct Seal and is pretty heavy. I use 3" thick layer of it in my pellet trap to stop pellets dead. If you use that to fill your stock, you'll be adding approximately 2 lbs of weight to the back end of your rifle. It's a real b!tch to work with because it's so sticky and gets all over your hands, so wear industrial strength rubber gloves. You'll probably need a broom handle to smush that stuff in all the way. Personally, I stuffed rags in my stock and that helped quite a lot without adding a whole lot of weight.

Duct seal that I get at Home Depot is only $1.98 per lb.
-
Plumber's putty is good, but duct seal is better, IMHO.

I haven't messed with ether one as trap yet, just seem's duct seal I've played with was super sticky & at around 80 dergee's seemed to run on soft side for a pellet trap?but hey I really have no idea on it other than texture & seeing it used on job site's,price seem's kinda even?and if anyone is wondering out there, just go an feel putty around led in's too furnace from air conditioner condenser from outside, it'll be a grey or black putty, plumber's you will most likely have to visit store, mainly hidden under stuff, wiped away when tightened down.
