Kind of twangy.  Easy cocking.  Accurate for an inexpensive gun.  Will take the GTX trigger.  My first "adult" air gun.  You could do worse and it won't break the bank if he decides he doesn't like it or outgrows it in a short time.

thanks red feather,....also looked online at the b12 and b15s.......unfortunately i heard the shorter wood stocked b15 is NLA . my sons pretty enthusiastic about this and id rather not do a multi-pump daisy or crosman.  i appreciate the feedback.........ive probably annoyed a few with so many questions of late..........

Stephanie (PeakChick) has one she seems fond of.  I am sure she can tell all.  Drop her a PM and ask.

I got one for my son's 8th birthday recently and he loves it... I do too actually :-) Very easy to cock and very accurate at 10m. It is a bit twangy but hopefully will settle down a bit after some more use. I haven't got another GRT-III for it yet but will likely do so at some point. Don't think that even though it's only a 500fps rifle it won't walk the scope back because it will if you don't tighten it right down.

I'd recommend it. I got one for $50 at Natchz which is a great price.
