Hello Everyone - I joined up a few minutes ago - great community you have here!

I just ordered a TF 89 .22 from Compasseco, and am debating about whether I should have it drop-shipped to someone like Gene to have it tuned.

But does it need a tune right away? How have you found yours to shoot out of the box?

Many thanks.

Kevin,,WELCOME TO GTA,, :)  This is a great forum with great people except for Timmy Pogo!! :p   I own a TF89 that Gene tuned, actually it was his personal gun,all I will say is that you won't be disappointed sending it to him,I'm sure Gene will tell you to shoot it for a while & then have him tune it,this way you will be able to see & feel the difference with a tune! :)   Once again Welcome! :)

Welcome Kevin,,, nice to have you with us....

I have a .22 TF-89 and mine is still bone stock.  It shoots very nicely, shooting in the high 700's to low 800's depending on the pellet.  My FPS readings are also very consistent with very little deviation.  The rifle is a power house and I'm impressed with it's power every time I shoot it.  Shoot it for awhile and get used to it, I'm sure you'll be impressed as well.

After you play with it for awhile if you want to get it tuned send it to Gene and he'll make the rifle even better  :)

Again, welcome.  I'll be looking forward to your future posts.....

Jeff

Mine got a home tune before I could even stand to shoot it. It cocked like a rusty swingset and had a powerful jump when fired. I got around 800fps out of it with a lube tune and the stock seal (14.3g cphp's). I gave it a delrin guide and fitted tophat along with a button and new Macarri seal. Along with the deburr and polish, this took care of the crunchy cocking cycle. I lost a negligible amount of fps with the new seal and tight fitted guide, but it made a much nicer cycling rifle out of it. Mine is very accurate, like many other TF owners. I think you will like it, especially after a bit of work.

Thanks for the welcome, gentlemen, and for the useful information. I have asked the folks at Compasseco where I purchased the gun to check it out before sending it to me, so hopefully they will pick me a nice one. I think I will opt to try the gun out for a while to see how she shoots before sending it in for a tune. By the way, is there any difference in the kind of tune work that Gene does compared to Mike Melick? I have heard Mike being well spoken of in the Yellow Chinese Airgun forum.

"If it was easy it wouldn't be hunting, it would be shopping." I love that quote, Jeff. It reminds me of the pig hunting expedition that I went on a few days ago. The not-easy part, that is, from which I am still recovering...

Kevin,,, that pig hunt sounds great.  One of these days I'm gonna book me a pig hunt,, would love to get one with my bow.....

As for the TF-89...... like I said, mine is bone stock and maybe I got lucky but right from the box it cocked nice and smooth, the trigger was very nice and the FPS was very good and very consistent which satisfied me that the stock seal was working fine.  There was a flurry of TF-89 purchases awhile back and some of the guns had some problems with undersized seals, but mine was fine.  It took me awhile to find the right pellet for my gun, which turned out to be JSB Exacts, but it was worth it.  The gun is extremely accurate and extremely powerful,,, it's a great hunting gun.

I'm sure if Compasseco is gonna check it out for ya then you'll get a good one, at least I hope so.
