I've often thought about trying it but I've never been real good with wood. Not quite sure how to approach it.

Hey bob what I do is start with the inletting
I get the correct router bit or a little smaller for the barrel or pressure tube and cut the top inlett then I cut for the trigger group and cocking lever after this what I find t be the hard part is the mounting screws, it’s a tossup for me I’m not sure if its easier before or after shaping to drill the screw holes this is the last stock I did I worked on it about 7 or 8 months, its not as good as I would have liked but its nice and tight in the action. The next project is the pump handle it has a crack in it, I hate to toss the 100 year old wood away but its time

attempting it but it sure looks skeeeery. You can get pretty far along it seems to me and in an instant you can make junk out of it. I thought about getting an a piece of junk wood and just start whittling on it to see just what I can do. It seems to me that just laying it out is in itself is quite a task, especially if you have never attempted anything like it before. I have next to nothing in woodworking tools except my pocket knife....lol... Not really. I do have a band saw, chisels, sanders, and a lot of other power and hand tools but using them in an unknown "application" in a "new world" mat have disastrous effects. :o :0

different then hardwood
You can get wood like walnut with a very low grade for about 10.00 15.00 $
That’s good for setup and patterns and great for practice you can’t get that price from a stock maker you will need to go to the supplier there are several out there

Made one for my Career rifle and a foregrip too. Couldn't stand that western grip but loved the gun so this is the result.
