I have a fairly new Whisper and i had it tuned by CDT with the GRT III trigger. Now i must say that this gun shoots like a dream. I really can't say enough about the tune, if anyone is on the brink of getting their gun tuned i would definately say take the leap. with that said, i have a question about the air venturi gas ram. Now i probably should not mess with it because it already shoots really well, but i can't help but think about how to make it even better! (i swear its a disease). If anyone has any input on this please let me know. thanks!

Reid,, I myself favor gas-ram rifles but only the true gas-ram which is made by Theoben,I'm not a fan of the air-venturi ram, some people like it & some don't,I have seen more negetives with the air-venturi then I needed to see! If you never shot a Theoben gas-ram rifle & you are looking to get that effect from your Whisper, your not gonna get without a Theoben ram. I know how excellent your gun shoots with A CDT Turbo-Tune,why do you want to mess with it,believe me,if Bob tuned that Whisper, that gun is shooting the best it possibly can,you probably got close to $400 into the gun already, why waste $125-$150 on a great shooter that was tuned by CDT? :)

ya know what? that is exactly what i am thinking. i just couldnt help but wonder ya know? i am not sitting on the order button or anything, i already love the gun. thanks for the feedback.

Joe,
You mention that the Theoben is a "true" gas ram. Is there any info on the physical differances between the Theoben and the Air Venturi ?????
Paul.

Paul, you can get some more info from Theoben USA,if you do a search you will be able to find the full history of the Theoben Gas-Ram! Theoben wasn't the original founder of the gas-ram,in 1975 Shark Manufactoring started the gas-spring for underwater spear guns,I believe it was 1979 when they actually patented the gas-ram in Argentina,in 1981 patent was granted in the U.S. It was after that when Theoben designed their own gas ram & mastered it,the gas ram process became to expensive in Argentina & they discontinued the gas-ram.

I have the air-venturi gas ram in my home-tuned Whisper. It shoots like a dream! A nice solid THUNK is all you get when you pull the trigger. My velocity increased slightly after install.
The drawback to gas rams is that they're harder to cock (all the way through the cocking stroke), and they are harder on scopes (my factory Gamo scope died shortly after installing my AV ram). Look for my installation how-to thread for more details.

Joe, thank you, now you really have my interest peaked .
I put a Pyramyd venturi gas spring in a week and a half ago, and I find the same results as Jared. More umph needed to cock it and more kick, but all smoother.
The Gamo scope gave up a while ago, but this gas spring made short work of a Tasco World Class that had held up for about 1000 shots after the Gamo died. So far (knock on wood), the Leapers mini swat I got is holding up to the gas spring.

I replaced mine with a CenterPoint 4-16x40AO from Wally World, and it seems to be holding up fine as well (CenterPoint is a re-branded Leapers).
-
Paul,,like I mentioned, some people like them & some don't,I just seen too many negetives with them, I never seen anything negetive with the Theoben Gas-Rams & I have seven of them! If you have no problem with yours, that's a good thing,,, :) ENJOY IT! :)

Joe,
In my limited experiance I wouldn't know. So far, all I've got to compare is that the air venturi is a big improvement over the spring that was originally in this Whisper....... and the original box is quickly filing up with parts I've removed. I fugure about half the gun is still original right now. I got a pellet gun because I thought the cost of feeding a shotgun was too high ....yeah right !!
Hopefully, someday I'll get to try one with the Theoben ram. If I get down to visit my brother in Sayville I'll come by and bug ya to see if you still have one. :D
