: Need help with CF-X stock screws
: KYkeith May 23, 2009, 04:38:58 AM
I have a stripped stock screw on my CF-X and I was wondering if anyone knew where to get new stock screws or the dimensions of the screws so that i can buy new ones at the hardware store. It would be wonderful if anyone just knew the dimensions because I hat those dang torx bit heads. I got my GRT-III installed as well as the scope but I really haven't shot it because I can't tighten the stock screw all the way. This is the reason I haven't posted any pics on the other thread I started.

I use metric headed cap screws from Home Depot. Just take the screw down with you and they have a thread gauge there in the store. I replace the big screw in the trigger guard also - different size. Be careful when you tighten them, with an allen wrench you can put too much torque on the new screws.

Thanks PBJ, and also do you have a good method of loosening a stripped bolt/screw from the stock. When I said the head of the torx screw is stripped i mean almost a perfect circle. I don't know or remember how in the world I did it but it sure makes me mad at myself.

I bought a GAMO Whisper .177 rifle at Dicks Sporting Goods in Columbia, SC. On 4-22-09. There were a couple of loose screws that I tightened. Other than that it’s been an interesting experience. Until today.

I ordered some Pink Loctite and was going to use it on the scope screws.  However being me, I decided to do a little field shooting today. Anyway the middle screw on the scope rail fell out and it was like looking for a needle in a hay stack. Lesson learned.

I checked with Dicks Sporting Goods, of course they don’t have any spare parts laying around. Check with Shooters Choice.  No help.  I guess I’ll stumble over to Home Depot, with a screw in hand and see what they have.   I've E Mailed GAMO, but who knows how long that could take. Especially seeing as it's a holiday weeked.

If they have the screw, it’s Loctite time.  Thanks for the information.

May 30th, 2009.   I emailed GAMO on the 24th and attached a copy of the receipt. I got the screws in the mail yesterday. This morning I put some Loctite Pink on the screw and cranked it in. This weekend, I'll take the remaining two out and repeat the process. I appreciate the folks at GAMO coming through so fast. Not bad.
