: Video editing question
: preez May 24, 2009, 05:08:26 AM
I am looking to for decent and FREE software to capture and video from my digital camcorder onto PC and possibly burn DVD's. After trying the built-in Windows Movie Maker I am very dissapointed in poor quality of transfered video, looks terrible if viewed larger than 320 x 240. That's in highest quality, which by the way chews up a lot of drive space.

What do you guys (CFX Marauder) use???

Any input would be helpful.

Chris

Chris,

I use WMM 100%...I record with a Fuji Finpix1000--> save to my HD--> edit with Windows movie maker-->save with the setting(video for local playback 2.1 Mbps)....There are several different settings you can save at fins the one that most closly matches the cam you recorded with..My cam records 30 FPS @ 640x480 so I match that on the save settings..Saving at a higher or lower setting as your cam will give you grainy footage...Saving to Youtube even further degrades the quality...I wish I had a site I could host my videos full size..They look totally different...

Take a look at your cams recording settings...If it records at 320 and you save it at 640 then your gonna be grainy...

I see, the difference is I use Digital8 camcorder and when transfered via USB cable to WMM it looks horrid!

The research continues....

Thanks Brent!

You'd figure it would come out nice with a dedicated Camcorder but I used my Stepsons Samsung D8 to record one shot and it was grainy and faded...Was very disappointed myself ...

Good luck....
