Okay guys. I got a rear sight on order from pyramyd air for my storm. I will use that, as my main gun. So now i need a new gun that i can shoot with a scope. I want a gun that is as the title suggest crazy accurate. I dont mind a used gun, but i want to try and stay under $400 if at all possible w/o optics. So lets say you had never shot or seen any of these rifles. Which would you choose based ona reputation for accuracy at a given range. Say out to 35 yards. For minisniping purposes. Be honest now...
-
I"d go with a Beeman R-9 ,,, perhaps one of them shiny new "Double Gold" rifles :)
JEff
-
Thats not under $400 jeff. You gotta play by the rules. i did consider it though, but by starting off at $500 for the gun, that leaves me less to get a good set of optics on there. I really did consider it though.
-
Hey Brody,
The Beeman R-9 Double Gold comes with the scope and mounts !
The Hw-50 is a nice balance of power between the R-7 and the R-9, and very well be my next purchase, if my mommy will let me. The HW-50 does not come with a scope and mount though.
-
R7. Never look back. You can get more later.
-
Gamo CFX turbo tuned gold trigger and a good scope and mounts all for less than $400. Can't beat it with a stick!!!!
-
yes the 48 goes for 400 and less on many occasions i had this model and accuratecy is what best describes this rifle and powerful .....there r many others also qbs .....jorge nyc...
-
Thanks guys. So far the R7/HW30 is winning followed by the R9. think we have any beeman fans around here? nah. I would prefer the R9, but isnt the R9 kind of like a Diamond in the rough? I have heard it benefits greatly from a tune. Does this mean its kinda rough out of the box? Thanks again.
-
My 2 R-9 Goldfingers are still bone stock and they weren't "rough" at all outa the box. Straight from the box my 2 rifles cocked smoothly, shot smoothly and were laser accurate. They were fantastic right outa the box.
Would a tune improve them ??? Sure, but we all know a tune would improve any rifle. But do I feel my R-9's need a tune ?? Nope ...... :)
Jeff
-
Thanks. I have just heard from a couple people that out of the box the guns were a little rough. Jeff you think you could email me some pics of your gun, and maybe some groups. I would greatly appreciate it.
-
Not a problem,,,,, I do in fact save my targets and keep them in the folders I have for each of my rifles along with detailed notes on work I've done on them, pellet preferences, etc....,,,, so I'll take some pics of some of the groups and the rifle and post em..... I'm on my way out to the doctor in a few minutes, but by the end of the day I'll have the pics posted for ya....
Also,,, if you want you can also check in with fellow GTA member dnttech (Bob) ,,, he just recently took possession of a brand new R-9 Double Gold ... He can give you his impressions of the gun "outa the box"..... shoot him a pm........
2 opinions are always better than 1........

Are you kidding me look what i missed.
http://www.network54.com/Forum/79574/message/1243460331/FS++BEEMAN+R9+177CAL+W-RINGS
AHHHHHHHHHHH! How did i miss that, i check classifieds at least once a day. You have got to be kidding me. What luck.
-
Even R7s benefit from tunes! In all fairness, the R9 is one of the most loved and recommended quality rifles anywhere. I don't have one to compare, though. I am continually blown away by the R7, and if the R9 is in the same quality league, along with the increased power, it would explain why it is so popular.
-
I guess its all going to come down to how much money i end up getting for my birthday. If i get only $500 then i will get the R7 DG, but if i get closer to $600 the i will go for the R9 DG.
-
Under $400 dollars?!?!? I've got a rifle for under $100 dollars that is incredibly accurate. The TF-97!!!!! LOL's No BS either. I bought mine (.22) from Ronbeau and at 15 yards I can stack them into a nice tight clover leaf. I coundn't believe believe it and was giggleing the whole dang time I was shootting it!!! Got some work to do on the trigger,...which just plain sucks,...but it's a diamond in the rough!! tjk
-
Here is my take on all this!! I chose the HW30 because its in your price bracket $400 including a good scope. it is nice weight and size to carry around all day and should be deadly accuate out of the box. You will keep it forever even when you buy and R-9:) second choice is definately a "turbo tuned" RWS 34 with a good scope at about $470+/- all up... I can drive nails with mine you would love it:) third is the R-7 $500+ mark and forth the R-9 double gold more money!!
Personally I would plan on 2 airguns one small and one big :emoticon: Tony.
-
tjk, can i see some pics of that gun? I like the looks of them, but didnt know how good they were. thanks.
-
You guys are killing me. I honestly now have no idea what to do. I was commited to an R9, and then i go and get another vot for an R7, and one for an HW30. I just dont know what to do. lol. Maybe i should save like $1000 and buy them all. Yeah sounds good.
-
Can't go wrong with the R7 or HW50, but if you can find a Slavia 634 somewhere, you would have enough cash left over for one killer scope....
-
Found an R9 in .177 on american airguns classifieds. was wondering if you thought it was a good deal.
http://www.airguns.net/classifieds/show_ad.php?adNum=8831&adSort=&StartingAd=100&NumberOfPages=4
Dont anyone buy it! Im going to talk to my dad tonite, and see if i can get this one. If not then i you guys can have it. But no one even think about it till i talk to my dad. I mean it! lol.
-
Any R-9 in good to excellent condition is worth min 275. They are excellent right out of the box. Get it save the money and send it off for a tune and then you will really see the quality come out.
-
so how come pyramyd sells them for $499 new? i think its a lot better to buy used anyways, because you dont have to break in the gun as much. Thanks for the opinion
-
I got a new R9 .22 from my uncle as a present (ya, he's awesome). Like most new Weihrachs, it was way over-lubed at the factory. It deiseled with cracking sounds for the first 25 shots or so. Now, there's no more visible smoke, but even after about 400 rounds through it I can still smell faint traces of burning oil. Unless you want to deal with the running in process like I am, you're on the right lines to be looking for a used R9. Preferrably, get a Paul Watts tuned used R9. That would be a jackpot.
-
I was looking at a narrowed down search, and they didnt have 4 pages. haha. i swear im losing my mind.
-
One order of ignore..... Check.
Getting old? What did I just ignore?
-
Dad said no. But i think it was a good sign. Because today we passed a used car lot, and i noticed aloud that they have a nice old toyota pickup that i like, and he said i really liked mine. I said we should look at it, and then there was silence. the kind of silence that means i'll think about it. Also he has said nothing about my notice of what i want for my birthday. I put a shortcut in the middle of the computer screen desktop that says "What i want for my birthday". Its a link to pyramyds listing of the Disco pump combo. So hopwfully he say it, and will order it. I think i will keep looking, and see whats out there, but if anyone would sell me a gun, i would be interested.
-
You asked for it,..you got it! tjk

Thanks tjk. Has this gun been tuned? Accuracy like that, and i might just reconsider.
-
Used FWB300 is as accurate as it gets. No recoil and quality built by them germans. I've used mine to shoot flies at 10m and dragonflies at 30m. Add a merlin spring and it will be shooting at about 200m/s which is good enough for pest control at medium ranges. With a nice scope you can decide whether you want to shoot the eye out or place the shot just behind the eye ;)
-
Get a RWS 850 from Roald on the 850 forum he'll hook you up with a super sweet shooter.
-
You can find the a new Beeman R9 at straightshooters.com if you were still interested in it. Thats where I ordered my R9 and it shoots great.
-
Here's the sighting in of my 850 after I put the 4X16 Centerpoint scope on it.

I concur with the FWB-300.
You said for mini-sniping, so you are not in a weight limited situation. In that case, the added weight of the 300 will be better for you. If you miss, you can't blame it on the rifle. I have a 12x scope on my 300 and 12x is not enough magnification to even approach the limits of accuracy of the rifle.
BUT (BIG BUT), the FWB-300 is a match rifle, it is NOT a field rifle. As such it is not made to handle the bumps a field rifle will get. Also the trigger is VERY LIGHT, as 10m match rifles have no lower limit on their trigger weight. In the controlled environment of a range, a VERY LIGHT trigger is not a safety issue, as it would be in the field. When I say VERY LIGHT, we are talking ounces, not pounds.
One other thing. The recoiling sledge, which is made up of the barrel, upper receiver, and piston, will recoil and slide backwards about 1/4 inch or so. Some people develop a flinch from having the rear sight or scope physically coming backwards towards their eye. Granted it does not come back as much as the recoil of a .308, but you should be aware of this design. The other 2 of the big 3 have an internal sledge (Anschutz LG-380) or a double piston (Diana 75), so the the rear sight or scope does not move.
Now there is another limitation on these match rifles...the scope, and access to the loading port for your fingers. The scope has to be short enough so the objective bell of the scope does not cover the loading port. Or you get a LONG scope (so the objective bell is forward of the loading port) and put it on a HIGH mount and your fingers would load the pellet into the loading port under the scope tube.
BTW
I have a Daisy/Avanti 853 and 953. Once you fix the trigger, they are VERY accurate rifles, just not a full-on match rifle. But IMHO the velocity is a bit low for reaching out to 35 yards.
Edit
I just saw the Walther LGR was listed with the Diana75. The LGR is in a whole different class from the Diana 75. This is because the LGR is a SSP rifle, not a spring rifle. This eliminates the moving mass of a spring rifle, so as good as the Diana 75, FWB-300 and Anschtuz LG-380 are, they don't compete with any of the match SSP rifles.

Triggers in match rifles are every way adjustable so you can set them just to your liking. Including first and second stage. I have one of them short leapers accushots in mine (3-12x) and it's just perfect, leaves the whole loading port open. I don't really know what others consider accurate but these 10M rifles typically do 0.5mm ctc groups at 10 meters, that is something I've never been able to achieve with regular springers (and I did really try it with my CFX).
-
Thanks for the input guys. There is a 300 for sale on American Airgun Classifieds right now, but its $465, and i have $40. lol. There is also a Diana 75 for around $300 some. After my birthday we will see what kind of money i get, and we will go from there.
-
Jeff, i may just forget the Eliminator and go with a .22 Beeman DG. This .20 DG shoots so much better then I can, it's not funny.
-
Yeah Bob,,,, those R-9's are sweeeeeeeeeet aren't they ? :)

A basic FWB300 is about 200-300 euros here, so it might pay to look around a bit. As I mentioned you can boost the power on FWB and parts are available so that would be my choice over other 10M rifles, although them Walthers sure look nice :)
