I'm dying to know how this turns out. How many prefer illuminated or non given the choice?

To be totally honest,...I have several Center-Point scopes with illuminated rets,...but I rarely use them at all. I should probably remove the batteries so they don't corrode into the scope rets and/or other internal mechanisms. I will say, I prefer the green 'glow' over the red. It's cool as heck using them,...but at that time of day,...or evenning, it's getting time to sack out for this weary soul!!!! LOL's tjk PS. I'd be happy just to win a cool hundred grand on a power-ball ticket,....pay off the mortgage,...and some debt,...and retire with a part time job being a greeter at Wally-World!!!,...OK, maybe Lowes or Home Depot!!!

I don't really think there is a down side, because you can just not turn them on when you don't want 'em. I don't care for them much, but I wouldn't pass on a scope just because it had them. I would just leave the light off.

The question is do I prefer illuminated? so I say no... I have plenty of scopes with this feature but use non illuminated reticle 99% of the time..I do like my red dot scope on pistol But not counting that:) if I cannot see target well its not fun to me , i would prefer night vision lol:) when experimenting with the illuminated reticle it seems too bright most of the time! personally I wish there was a chioce like save $20 bucks on the scope by not having it:)

I use both since I hunt in low light conditions and night hunt. If I don't have a laser mounted then I switch on the illuminated reticles. Ed

All other things being equal, I prefer the option of illuminated reticle scopes. I rarely use them, but when it is needed, if your rifle doesn't have one . . . well. But ask the question another way: presuming the same scope were available with or without lR, how much extra would you pay for the IR? In most cases, nothing, since my best shooting PCP already has an IR scope. Everyone should own at least one. It probably shouldn't add more than 10% to the price of the scope, max, though.

I have one scope that has IR, a Leapers compact 4X (similar to a Bugbuster, but no AO). I use it on my "tactical" Crosman 760 to occasionally plink cans after dark. For those half-dozen times a year I do that, the lighted retical is super cool! I picked the scope up at a gun show for $20 so I don't feel I paid extra for the lighted feature.
I wouldn't go out of my way to buy another lighted scope just to get the light, but I wouldn't pass on a scope that had the features I want plus the light for a good price.

Illuminated reticles are great for the times that I hunt. I usually hunt in the early early morn or at dusk and at that time the shadows are getting real long and its to bright for nightscopes (I don't have one but I can still hope) and the critters really love to sit in the shade so the crosshairs disappear. I also love the hunt under my security light and rabbits and skunks hang around the edges of it also. Most lluminated reticles are to bright for nighttime shooting but I messed up once and left the reticle turned on for the weekend and when I realized it the battery was real weak, this weak battery lowered the brightness perfectly so now I see great with it.

Probably depends on the conditions. I have one on a .22 target rifle (powder), - and have never the illumination option.

The only time I ever use the illum on my scope is when I'm looking into dark shadows or heavy woods and when I go night hunting other than that I rearly ever use them,but it's there when I need them and that is nice to know.So I would have to say I would prefer to spen a few more dollars just to have them because there is a time you just might need them.

I don't use the illuminated reticle feature often but when I need it it's nice to have. I prefer the green over the red, just makes shooting in low light much easier....

I rarely use my illumintated reticle on my Centerpoint, but I have had to use it in lower light and it's helped. I like to know that I have it if I need it.
