Yep my new baby girl arrived today and she is a beauty. Awesome wood stock and beautiful bluing. One of the nicest out of the box shooters that I own now..:) She even looks prettier than my AA 410 Classic Walnut stock..:)
All kidding aside, I was very impressed with the overall fit and finish on my new HW-97 .177. Right down to the last detail. Fortunately I had gotten a tip on a good price and could not pass this one up. After unpacking her I quickly run a couple patches through her and wiped her down real good. Cleaned the doves off with alcohol and also my new one piece mount. Put a dab of red locktite on her and set up the scope exactly where she was perfect for me.. I used the mount set screw as well but could not wait to shoot her..:) After the scope was on and mounted securely I sighted her in. I used a new accushot one piece mount with a new Hawke Map Pro 4-16X50 AO Ballistic scope. Very clear glass and was a cinch to site in.
The first 30 or 40 shots was very weird. Was using CP lights .9gn. I noticed that after about 20 shots I got three in a row that went super sonic. Then another 10 shots and a couple more went super sonic. So I switched to the JSB's. I was kinda worried that maybe the spring was damaged but not a chance..:) After switching to the JSB's she shot great after tweaking the scope for the JSB pellets.. Had a great time shooting her and she rates right up there with my BSA Lightning as far as accuracy goes off the bench. I am not one who likes rifles over7 lbs but since the HW-97K is a carbine she balanced perfect for me. She is another KEEPER for sure..:) Peak, David and Dano have all expressed how nice of quality the HW is and believe me the HW 97K is one very sweet looking air gun and she is as accurate as they get.
Here are a few pictures to share with you all. I am a Proud New Father Again...:) I just love dim German Ladies:)

Sorry Brody but when I can catch up on all my work I will be putting a new JM spring along with a tune on her myself...:)

Now gene what if you mess that baby up. then it would be your fault. Lol. Have some fun with that one for me will ya? I want a new gun, but i really dont know what i want. throw some guns at me and i will try em and see what i like.

My Grandpa told me the same thing. "Try em all once, and the ones you like, try again."
Nice gun Gene. Now come on down to the target gate!!!!!!!
-
Well I will tell you Brody that I have owned almost a 100 air guns in the last 5 years..:). Like your grampa said..:) I bought them and sold al but about 30 of them which are almost all keepers..:) Who know's about next week..:)

Gene; Welcome to the club !!! She's a beauty . Did you shoot any over the chrony ? I was wondering what new ones shoot. kirby
-
No David but I will this weekend. She feels like she is shooting the JSB's in the high 800 fps range, but I do not know for sure. I never looked at the fps rating on the HW-97..:) I just took you, Dano and Peaks advice on the accuracy..:) If they are accurate then consistancy is the factor. She balances very nice in my arms David. Even at over 9lbs with a scope she feels great on the bench..:)
Thanks David, Dano and my little Sister Peak..:)

Congrats Gene! Sie sind eine sehr shon Madchen.

When I got mine apart it had gooey grease all over it, including the piston seal. Mine was shooting somewhere between 850 and 1200fps out of the box!!
Here's a look at the piston seal:

That black crud is all grease, I actually cleaned my stock seal up and it is a perfect cream color, not black like in the picture...that's some gooey stuff! I saved my stock seal/spring/guide in case I ever need a spare. The stock spring is a bit loose on the rear spring guide, but not by much, unfortunately there's no tophat like the Maccari kit has.
Happy that yours finally came in and that you got a good deal, they are awsome guns and well worth the money spent:) Bet yours will shoot real nice with the "Gene tune" on it and all of that gunk cleaned out of it. Mine is my favorite springer of all time.....oh geez, I used "favorite" and "springer" in the same sentence, guess Kirby is rubbing off on me :o :o :o

Quote" Mine is my favorite springer of all time.....oh geez, I used "favorite" and "springer" in the same sentence, guess Kirby is rubbing off on me" If I had to pick a favorite springer , It'd be my HW97K ; for now anyways . LOL It's the one I feel I have "sorted " out ; It's the one that if I "had" to hit something with , I'd grab it and not think twice. That's in the springer department ; that is . LOL kirby

Unlike my first BSA Lightning the HW has some spring twang. I already have a couple spring's and seal kits set up for tuning. I will do a complete tune including a new guide etc. I cannot wait to be able to get back on my bench again.. May have to go back and get some more OJT from Bob... hehe

That shooter is soooooooooooooooooo sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet brother. 8) I can't get over the lines on her, very nice indeed. One of these days I'll work up to the BSA's, I've heard nothing but great report's about em. :) Ed
