The doctor gave me the go ahead on putting partial weight on my leg this week. So I decided that on Saturday afternoon I would test this out..:) I made it to the shop for the first time in almost 8 weeks....:) I had Ernie take the HW-97K out there so I could do a nice tune on her. My only gripe with the HW-97K was the spring twang when shooting.
So to make a long story short and not to bore you with all the details, I replaced the piston seal, main spring with JM parts. I custom made a new delrin spring guide to fit the new spring as well. I polished the sear pin on the piston shaft and did a bit of polishing on the trigger parts.
After the tune was complete there was a considerable difference in the over all performance when cocking and shooting. Of course it will take a tin of pellets in order to seat the new seal and guide in correctly. After tune was completed and about 30 shots or so later I asked Ernie to put 10 shots across the chrony. The numbers go: 856, 857, 858, 861, 862,865,869,873, 874, 875. As you can see the numbers are climbing per shot. The deviation is very close. This normal on a freshly tuned springer and the numbers will continue to go up through the breaking period. I would suspect that she will top out around the 890's
Before the tune she was shooting in the mid 900 fps range with a very tight 8 fps overall deviation.
I took some pics of the parts breakdown including the old and new parts.

Hey Gene I bet it feels good to get back in the shop after being out 2 months.
-
Gene, A friend of mine broke his leg in a motercycle accident years ago. He went around in a cast for about 2 months before they cut it off. The next day after the cast was off he suggusted that we crank up our motercycles and hit the road. We did. Within 2 miles of his house he hit a slick spot and went down. Yes the leg was broken again. In the same fracture.
Moral of story? Take it real easy and be real cautious.
BTW, the gun looks good. You can tell it is quality just by the finish of the metal.

It's great to see you back in the shop bro and it look's like you got her tuned up just fine. Now keep us posted on her ongoing progress buddy.:) Ed

Glad to hear you're back on your legs....just ease into it.....standing and moving around abit longer each day.
-
Glad your healing just fine. As for the Twang, did the tune help it any?
-
Yes Khiem and all you hear is the pellets exiting the muzzle now..:) No twang just a bang...:) Very quiet and smooth shooting cycle now. I sure love shooting this gun and the accuracy is fantastic.
