.....please. Great turnout and shooting last week....lets make it so again this week. Shoot Often Shoot Safe
-
Used the repaired SSP250 for this one, wrote June 14th on the targed but shot it half an hour ago so that should read June 15th.

First of three pistol matches of the afternoon.
Pistol: RWS Diana P5 Magnum, Sights: Fiber Optics, Pellet: .177 Crosman WadCutter, Distance: 5 Meters,
Position: Stand/One Hand, Temp: +22C, Indoors, SCORE: 118/150

I shot the 10M pistol first and noticed some vertical stringing along with the 3 pumps feeling somewhat different each time. I had been pumping pistol first, then loading pellet. I changed over to loading pellet FIRST, then pumping. AHA! No more vertical strings! Then I shot the 5M match. I think switching from my Daisy wads to Crosman Competition wads helped some too. Any flyers in this match were strictly from the shooter.
Pistol: Crosman 1377, 3 pumps
Pellet: Crosman Competition Wads
Stance: Standing Off-Hand, 1 hand

CaptGeorge.....that's interesting. Do you think the 1377 is leaking? I always pump and then load. Next time I'll alternate to see if there's any difference.
-
Don't really know, Stan, but I'd say so. I'm guessing that cocking first seats the valve better and prevents leakage. I hadn't really noticed it on earlier matches. I figured all flyers were operator error. But now that I have the steel breech and better rear sight I'm paying more attention to details. Some of the 1377 owners here probably can explain it better. I just shoot and use what works for me.
All-in-all, I'm amazed how accurate the inexpensive 1377 can be. However, I did spend more on the breech and new rear sight than I paid for the pistol! LOL. I found the heavier steel breech also helped me steady the pistol for off hand shots. My only other addition will be a trigger shoe if I can find one at a paintball shop, etc. I suspect the shoe would improve trigger feel.
I also cock bolt back to first "tiny click" and pump once when storing the 1377. I heard this on the Crosman forum and it seems the best way to store it.
BTW - The Crosman Competition wads shoot much better in my 1377. They're slightly larger than the Daisy's and have fewer flyers. They're $4 per 500 at local Walmarts and Academy's over here in a plastic pack - no tin - or $3 per 250 in tin.
-
I use the cheap Crosman Wadcutter for both my 1377 and RWS Diana P5 Magnum for these matches. In both pistols the pellets shoot left.....I have to adjust the rear sights all the way to the right. I know the heavier pellets shoot more "centered" in the Diana.....but I haven't tested other pellets with the Crosman 1377.

What a GREAT day this is, Happy Fathers Day, FREE to do as WE please LOL. * GTA Open Pistol 5m Match #14 2 Hand Grip * Crosman 2240 .177cal w/UTG BugBuster 6x32 AO/IR Scope * Crosman Super Match WC .177cal 7.8gr * Score 144 7X

Stan, I'm using these. Crosman used to sell a cheaper pellet. But, these work fine in my 1377. With the new steel breech and LPA rear sight they shoot dead center - Left to Right.
-
CaptGeorge, I used to use those also.....only $4.50Can for 500. Now no shops around here carry those anymore. If I want them I need to order them....which means I've to add in the freight cost. So I bought the next inexpensive ones....both in Hunting and Wadcutters......the small milk carton boxes. I think I've 4 of each. They're 1250 count boxes....but I think their quality isabit worstthan the ones in the little plastic boxes. But out to 15 meters they're do-able.

Beeman P-17 Iron Sights
RWS .177 R-10 Match w/c
5 meters, 2 hand, standing
Score: 139/150 1x
I had fun shooting this match even if the score went down from last week. My eyes are getting weak so if I get a sharp 'front sight' , then the bullseye is just a big blurrrr. So this week I used the 'White Bullseye Target' to see if it would help. I'll try it some more before I give up on the iron sights.
Anyway, Happy Fathers Day to all who qualify.....:)

I either get a clear bull (If I wear my prescription glasses) or clear sights. I don't think too many can get both.....if any. I just focus and try to keep the iron sights in line, clearand under the bull (6 O'Clock position) and squeeze da trigga.
-
That's exactly the way to do it, but it seems to get harder with each passing year.
Bifocals can make it interesting....
-
Yep, about 30 years ago when my friend and I both got a Gamo Expotec....his had the plastic stock with pistol grip.....we shot in his basement almost twice a week for over a year or so. Fun times. I remember looking at the target(s)...most of the time we used little plastic figurines (G.I Joe soldiers) and plastic model airplanes that he had built.......and back to the sights, back and forth and squeezing the trigger.....no problem. Now it takes ALOT longer....the old eyesjust cannot get a clear viewfast enough while alternating between target and sights.
-
I wear no-line bifocals so I'm constantly adjusting them for best sight picture. Dang! It's tough getting OLD! LOL!
Yep,it's hard to get good sight picture anymore. In my 30's I shot competitive pistol and rifle, but alas, now in my 60's the eyes just aren't what they used to be. However, proper technique is still to focus on FIRST SIGHT and let rear sights and target blur some. Focus on the first sight and you'll shoot better.
-
I had lasiks a few years ago and can now see the left one of a knat at 20yrds. However, if it is closer than 15 inches I need reading glasses to see print. I am constantly closing and opening my eyes trying to get a sight picture. You are correct. It's sucks getting old.

I was tryiing to avoid doing any of this last minute - failed despite getting a jump on a few early in the week.
(lost my first post - if it shows up and this becomes a dup - sorry)
