Hi
Has anyone used see through rings to mount a scope on a springer? I read someplace that wasn’t a good idea but I can’t remember where. A friend suggested them when I told him I needed a higher profile mount because the objective lens of the scope was hitting the top of the rifle. I was using a Leapers accushot medium profile mount. I have since sent it back for a high profile. The scope has a 40mm AO and I couldn’t adjust it using the medium profile mount. Mounting on a Ruger Air Hawk.
Thanks

They are good for close range shots but if the bell on your scopes objective is hitting the receiver it will probably obscure the openings on the see thru mounts. I have see thru's on my 460 magnum but my leapers scope has a 50mm adjustable scope objective and I can barely see thru them. Don't forget that when you put a scope that high on your airgun that it changes the angle that your gun shoots and the farther out the bullet or pellet travels before it crosses the line of sight. On my gun it's 2inches from center of bore to the line of sight, and I have to aim almost 2 mils low at 10yrds or I miss the target.

40 yards seems to work out real well with my 460 and 350 mag. On a rabbit or big grackel from 15 to 45 I just aim point blank and the pellet stays within an inch or so up or down. We west texans have to zero our rifles a little farther than most because we don't have any trees or shrubs to sneak up so most shots end up being pretty long. There is a funny article on pyramydair.com/blog that Tom Gaylord wrote about shooting prairiedogs in Lubbock TX and he talks about how there is nothing to hide behind so the critters see you coming from a mile away.

GEEEEZ!! 40 yards I’d be lucky to hit the paper let alone a target on the paper at that distance. My max distance is about 30 Yards in my backyard So I might sight it in at the distance. I will have to read the blog you are talking about.

Personally I have never been able to see how ' See' through rings could be that helpful. At least for myself and in my opinion are ugly with the large cut outs made into them.
Form follows Function and I can't see the function.
Welcome to the GTA. I bet you can really star gaze in West Texas.

My guess is so you can see the regular sites and use them in a pinch if your scope gets messed up. In my case they might be a little higher profile than the medium profile I tried to use. A friend suggested them.
I’m an amateur astronomer and we do have nice skies but here lately they have been cloudy a lot... The picture I use is the Sculptor galaxy NGC 253 one of my favorites. It was taken by a friend.
Just get you some 10X50 binoculars, star chart (Skymaps.com) and red flashlight you are on your way

My favorite is the Sombrero Galaxy. I love to imagine living there and looking around and seeing all the dust illuminated and that the planet would probably be in perpetual twilight, great for illuminated reticles.
