I recently installed the Pro Guide retainer in my RWS 48. It is amazing how calm the gun shoots now. All of the traditional springer gyrations are gone and accuracy is easier to obtain (nothing mechanical makes you a better shot). My only concern is the gun seems to have lost a lot of power. I do not have a chronograph so I can't verify. Has anyone else tried the Air Venturi Pro Guide Spring Retainer? If so, what are your results.

I can't say from personal experience what effect the AV PGSR has,..but from reading the first and last blog parts from Tom Gaylords review, it sounds to me like the same as heavily tarring the main spring,...too much,...and loss of velocity happens. But I guess it's a trade off because you'll end up with a more well behaived shooter. I suppose for heavier sprung rifles you have to leave a bit more lea-way between a slight spring buzz,..and an ultra smooth firing cycle for the spring to opperate at full potencial. But this is only my theory and opinion. Deffinately a fine line between the two though. Hopefully others will chime in on this and offer their opinions and/or experiences. Definatelly an interesting topic!!! tjk

I guess I was a little unsure after the upgrade because of the smooth and calm firing cycle (not normal for a magnum springer). It is super smooth and maybe the tradeoff was worth it. Since my initial comment, I shot a groundhog at 35-40 yards, hit him in the chest, found him dead. Maybe I was concerned over nothing. These springers seem to get better and better with use. Nice talking with you guys.
