: best $50 ever!
: TehNerdHerd June 22, 2009, 05:30:19 PM
I snagged a Sheridan 397 for about $50 worth of stuff in a trade that was set-up through a friend of a friend kind of deal. It looked REALLY rough when i got a hold of it. With a stripping and cleaning it looked a mill. times better. Some rust was already formed on the screws for the rear sight. Took it out today and was hitting cans over and over at about 25 yards with C.P. heavy's (prob. too heavy for this gun) It seems to be missing a plate and 2 screws on one side, anyone know where or if i can grab replacements?

Crosman has many of the parts for these. Also, Tim at Mac1 (http://www.mac1airgun.com/index.htm) has lots of Sheridan parts

You got a great deal there! You got a real American classic air rifle.
CP heavies are not too much pellet for that gun. A lot of pumpers like heavy pellets. And because it's a pumper you don't have to worry about over loading the main spring like a springer.
The screw holes are for mounting an optional peep sight you can get for that gun. It's about $25 -$30 from Crosman or other online vendors.
Have fun with the 397!
