Ok I go to the Dr.'s office to take my phisical for the new job..Everything is going well, blood pressure good, heart and lungs are ok, p'd in a cup for drugscreen..
WELL THATS WHEN THE DOCTOR TOLD ME I HAD TO GO UPSTAIRS FOR THE STRESS PART...
Ok no problem, I slip in the elevator and go to the next office... A young Male Dr. leads me down a hall into a room full of workout equiptment.. I'm thinkin this can't be that bad. I do a few tests for strength in my hands and stuff, A flexibility test, no problem....
WELL then he takes me over to this cylinder that was about 3.5 feet long and 12" in diameter and weighed 96 lbs. He said now pick that up and toss it on your shoulder and do 3 squats...(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-frown.gif)
I told the guy that I'm 50 years old and a superintendant I ain't never gunna have ta pick anything like that up... he said its part of the test, if ya can't do it ya fail...(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-surprised.gif)
So I reached down and grabbed that sucker, heaved it off the floor, let me tell ya getting that thing on my shoulder was a bear.. At this point I'm gruntin like a boar hog and fixin ta squat the first time... I did it, but commin back up was a chore.... OK 1 down 2 ta go no my way down again I felt my leftone let go, but I did it again.. 1 ta go, I'm puffin like a cho cho train at this point and started down the last time, thing started flashing off and on for a second and I wasn't sure I was gunna make it back up but I felt a little help from the dr. and did it...
Wow That suked... So I leave the Dr.'s office and call my new boss to tell him how it went...
HE STARTED LAUGHIN,I SAID WHATS SO FUNNY..

I think you add 20 lbs to the load every time you tell it breaux....................... Kinda like fishing.

No I didn't its 96 lbs. Art told me its supposed to be the same weight as a roll of Modified butiman roofing for the roofing dept... I ain't even in the roofing dept.. lol.. thats a different part of the company....

maybe they wanted to see if you could pick your secretary up on your shoulders?...ha!.....way to go!...show them "us" old codgers still have the "stuff"!!!! :)

I hear ya bud. I told my boss ta go down there and try it himself.. And to send some of those project managers down there as well... he said right away he couldn't do it.. and he and I are only a few months apart on the age thing.. He also told me he was gunna have a talk with the saftey coordinator and see if they really need that kind of a test.. It was rough for an old guy like me.... 20 years ago it would have been nothing, but I have been in supervision so long that I aint lifted athing for 20 years...
But hey I did it and I showed em hu...
