: Consistent Fliers

For the last couple of days I have been enjoying my .177 MM B26-2. But a strange thing has been happening that I can't figure out. I used a bench bag at 10 yards to zero in my scope. I started out using JSB Exact. After the scope seemed zeroed in, I would shoot 10 shot groups and here is where the strange part occurs. Sometimes I would get 10 shots within the 1' circle, but more often than not I would get 3-4-5 shots within the circle and the rest an inch or two directly above the circle. These "fliers" were clustered in tight groups.  It looked like I had targeted 2 different spots. This happened consistently over 2 days shooting. I also tried CPHPs, RWS Superdomes, and RWS Meisterkugeln - same thing happened. I checked all the gun bolts and the scope.  There can't be anything too wrong or I would not be able to hit the target circle consistently. I considered the bag causing the problem so I changed and started shooting by laying the rifle in my hand propped on the bag - it still happened. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this?  Thanks!  Terry

Possibly still some intermittent dieseling.  Does the air rifle ever have a wisp of white smoke at the breech when you open it?  Also, be very careful to seat each pellet consistently.  Try a pellet seating tool -- you can use the blunt end of a BIC pen or a swizzle stick with a small round ball on the end, or just your finger if you are very careful.

It looks like it might be dieseling to me as well.

Could also be a scope problem

I find when I have a problem like this it is the scope, or something to do with the scope, mounts, etc.... The B26 is not hard on scopes, in my  opinion  anyhow. but for some scopes it does not take much.  Frank....

Go back to iron sights for a test if it shoot's  straight    and tight groups it's a scope problem ps make sure you use pellets that have performed good for you before howie

Check your breech block pivot bolt,...I was having similar problem with one of my rifles,...tightenned the bolt up some more and consistancy improved. Tommy made a great point though,...consistant pellet seating does pay off with big dividends. And if the rifle is still new and still breaking in,...dieselling will fluctuate the velocities, and in effect, change your point of impact. Just keep shooting it and cycle the residual lubes out of it. Best of Luck, tjk
