This is a pic of my shadow the MFG year is 2003. 8) I have been debating on tuning it. I have access to a mill and lathe. I am experienced in both. I would like to hear some tuning suggestions from anyone out there, like what materials to use for spring guides and pistons. Also should I be concerned about the lifetime warranty or say heck with it and have some fun :emoticon:

Hi John and welcome to GTA:) Although I am not a machine shop guy so can not help on that level, I can say ..My son has a shadow just like yours and its a fine airrifle:) If tuned with a GRT 111 trigger I would concider it twice as good, and last a life time of fun:) Therefore I have never really worried about the warranty other than usually shoot about 500 shots first to see if any major issues. go for it, Tony:)

I'd say screw the warranty and have some FUN!
Delrin makes a nice rear spring guide. A new spring, seal and lubes from Jim Macarri would work nicely for makin stuff slick and a small tophat made from brass would give it a little extra kick.

SDale, pardon my ignorance, but what do you mean by "tophat"? Maybe the piston?
-
A top hat fits the internal dimension of the piston end of the spring. Kind of like a mini spring guide. It helps cut vibration and spring torque. If you make it out of hardened steel or navel brass the extra weight in the piston allows for shooting heavier pellets and faster speeds. However it can also be harsher to shoot. It takes trial and error/knowledge to get it right. Delrin adds minimal weight and you still get reduction in twang and torque without a harsher shot cycle.
If you check here and scroll to the picture of springs you will see what I mean.

Thanks for all the go for it's. Im working on plans for a spring compressor, and some ideas for the shadow like having the barrel black chromed.
