I've pretty much figured out what I need to get into PCP gunning, thanks to the guys on this Forum..!
I also found out how exspensive it is.
It seems the air tanks are almost as much or more than the cost of the guns. I was going to use a Pigmee tank from Airhogs, priced at only $275, only to find out that the Pigmee tank is no longer avialable, and now realize that some of the larger air tanks are in the $400 - $500 price range, that's a bit much, but I noticed that there are lots of Paintball tanks that range from 3000 - 4500 PSI and these tanks are less exspensive!
IS THERE ANY REASON WHY THESE TANKS COULD NOT WORK WITH A PCP PISTOL OR RIFLE ?????

I am probably not the guy that should answer this but I will try. Those tanks are really small compared to scba and scuba tanks so I am not sure how many fills you would get out of a tank. The biggest one I saw only held 88 cubic inches of air scba run from 44 cubic feet to 88 cubic feet. It seems like that would be a big drawback if you cant fill it to many times. Also the regulators that come with the tanks regulates the pressure down to 800 psi, much less than you need.

I got a used tank from the local dive shop with the standard Kvalve on it for about $100 used. It is a big aluminum tank either 80 or 88 cubic feet. It's heavier but you get a lot of fills on it, maybe 60 or 80. I just picked up a used "pony" scuba tank which is 30 cu. ft for $120 on craigs list and I figure I will get 20-30 fills on that and it is much lighter for lugging around. Gotta see if there is a way to hook the little one to the big one to refill then I can leave the monster in the car and just lug the little one down to the range.
At least here anyway the cost of a fill is the same for an 80 cu. ft tank as a 30 cu ft tank and thats $7.00 so going bigger keeps your cost per shot down.
I suggest talking to the local dive shop they can probably put you in touch with one of their customers that wants to upgrade gear. Also they can explain the "hydro test" (needs to be done every 5 years) and the visual inspection (needs to be done annually) and both of these are a cost item. My local shop has been very helpful even though I am not a diver.

So You Purchased a scuba tank and had it filled without being a certified diver., That's good to know, looks like Im gonna have to talk to someone at a local shop, Airhogs.com was NO help!

I have several scuba tanks from 60 cu.ft. to 100 cu.ft 3420 psi,alot of refills for my talon .25,and for my Maurader ,thats alot of none stop shooting and then for hunting i have a 47cu.in. and 13cu.in,in the maurada the 47 is good for about 6 refills in the field and the little 13 is good for about 4 and thats more than enough for squirrel hunting
Alot of dive shops will fill your tanks ,some require a waiver stating that it is for airgun only. The more you go there the better they know you,i have one shop ,owner is a PCP shooter.
And the JDS regulators can be ordered in 2,000 and 2500 psi.

Im not looking to shoot this thing all day long, so i dont need a tank with 100 refill capability.......LOL But I do like JDSAirman's Prices! ...........Let me know what you think!

You may not be shooting it all day long but a 80 Cu Ft Scuba tank means you aren't making a trip to have it filled after every outing either... If the place you get it filled isn't across the street it saves you money and if you get a smaller tank you need to have it filled more often. Most shops charge a straight price to fill the tank, $7 here. If I can get 4 times as many fills out of a tank as I can out of a smaller tank that save me $21.00 and 3 extra trips to the shop..

I understand what you mean now, the 53 cu in tank will work, but wont last long enough to be practical, thats probably why those tanks arent so exspensive..!
Okay, so what would someone expect to pay for a brand new 80 cu Ft tank rather than using a 50 cubic INCH tank......?

Magicwolf,,The 53 cu.in. is about 31cu.ft.,,if you know the tube airchamber in cu. in. of your rifle ,go to Airhog and then find fill calculator under the freebie and inter the numbers,and that will tell you how many fills for your gu

Well the gun is advertised as having 2 air reservoirs and it says the air reservoirs hold 500cc but im not sure if thats 500cc each or combined. I found the airhog air refill calculator, but werent sure what numbers to put into all the variables, for example "Fill gun to what pressure" is a question im not sure of.
But heres what I tried;
Tank size .....................31cf
Tank fill presure............ 3000psi
Fill gun to what preasure..2000psi (Not sure)
Gun Cylinder size........... 500cc
Refill gun at..................1000psi
Number of refills ............ 9

Try 200 bar, or 2900psi for a fill pressure and about 2000 for refill me thinks, doubt you get as many fills as you think. Many SCUBA shops will fill a standard 80CF 3000psi tank to 3300 psi, just have to ask and explain why you need more pressure.....more psi gets you more fills.

As I have said in my past posts. Find yourself a used 80 cu. ft. scuba tank with a Kvalve. They go for about $120 to $150 around here. Get an aluminum one rather than steel to help keep the weight down and be done with it.
For the size of the gun you are looking at with the air resevior it has you need volume, think CUBIC FEET not inches. Get on the net, check out craigs list, ebay, call the local dive shop and talk to someone and tell them what you want to do.
Carbon fiber tanks are nice AND EXPENSIVE. You do not need to start out with a carbon fiber tank. As I suggested earlier in the this and another post buy used and if you can get it from a local dive shop. They will walk you thru what to watch for. Then get your gun an start having fun. Air is not hard to find in most locals. You are not using it for breathing, either it holds air or it doesn't. A used tank that will need to be hydro tested in 2 years will cost you less than on that won't need it for 4 years...
Remember if you are going to use a rifle that takes a lot of air due to caliber or air resevoir you need to feed it a lot of air. Also if it uses a lot of air you ARE going to get fewer fills, it is just the way the equation works out.
