Well I ordered a new scope to replace the one on my Whisper. Of course I totally spaced out the size of the rails and it won't fit :( Back online and I ordered a new mounting system that will adapt and let me use the newer scope. It has the anti-movement thingee just like the one that fits on my RWS 350.
One of the nice surprises though is the high quality of the open sights! I shot about a hundred pellets with open sights and really enjoyed the experience. I was clanging the cow bell I keep down in my woods with every shot.
I took my old Gamo scope and put it on my 1971 Sheridan Blue Streak. It works great on it as I can get it a lot closer to my eyes than the scope I had on it before. Now if I would get over the flu I'll get in some more shooting.
Just a few days until squirrel season! Hopefully I'll be better by then!

Hang in there; Saturday's coming. I hope you feel good enough to go and get a few. I've been watching them all over here in west tennessee. I don't know if we have the mast to make it through the winter but we have a bunch of squirrels right now. Thin 'em out so they'll be safe this winter. LOL

We have a bumper mast crop! Once the drought ended here last year we have tons of food for squirrels, deer, etc. The bear population has exploded as well! Wild Turkeys have become almost as annoying as those silly Canada Geese. :)
They have captured two bears in Knoxville this year. There are now deer in Knox county and wild turkeys. In the past Knox county had the lowest harvest of both of these animals.

I know what you mean. I grew up in north Knox county and never saw a deer back in the 70 and 80s. We had to go to union county and farther to get to hunt. This past year, my dad was sitting in the backyard minding his own business and looked up and a hen turkey was walking across the backyard! Now there's deer hiding out in a lot of the woodslots. Tennessee is wonderful, ain't it?
Saturday's coming! I'm already aired up and have the cutting trees spec'ed out. I saw a tree this morning that looked like the ground had been carpeted with cuttings. Problem was, it's in a neighbor's yard!LOL Of course, those squirrels are coming from the woods on my side of the road. :p
Go get 'em! I smell squirrel and dumplings now!

Where do you live in Tennessee? I live in Knoxville near the Cedar Bluff road area. I grew up down in Farragut and used to hunt down there until it became all subdivisions.
-
I live in northwest tennessee now, close to Reelfoot lake. The Garden of Eden is just down the road; if I could only find the gate!!! :D
My parents still live in Halls just north of Fountain City. I went to school in Halls and then UT Knoxville before leaving for more schooling. I came back to middle tennessee for five years and then moved west in 2000. We still come to Knoxville to visit our parents on a regular basis. Dad told me yesterday morning, he was having a problem with the squirrels eating his green tomatoes! Squirrel season isn't important to him but his maters are!!!
I know exactly where Cedar Bluff is. I pass it on my way in. Unfortunately, I remember Cedar Bluff when it was mostly farmland. Times sure do change, don't they?

Hiyer: Yu said: "Back online and I ordered a new mounting system that will adapt and let me use the newer scope. It has the anti-movement thingee just like the one that fits on my RWS 350."
Please explain what you ordered, I just may have the exact same problem!
Thanks

The front flange fits over the front of the rails on your rifle. This keeps the sope from moving as it is attached to the rails on the mount. I've neve had it budge on my 350 and it has kick butt recoil. I expect it will work well on my whisper.

Well I woke up this morning to find my bird feeders destroyed from squirrels! I guess they got enough of them on top of it to break it down. When I decide retribution I hope to get it on video :)

How will that shoulder thing fit down on the barrel? Or are you saying that you are going to leave the Gamo mount adapter on the gun then that shoulder fits over the front of it?? I was wanting to get rid of the Gamo adapter---
Sorry - having trouble seeing how that thing will work?? Thanks
-
It fits over the gamo rails. The front part is shaped so as not to allow the mount to slide backwards. What you get is a Picatinny rail system on top that fits your weaver mounts. Most folks that use the RWS rifles use a similar mount.

cnsjones,
I think what actchman2, is calling the "Gamo rails" is what others call a "spacer rail". That spacer was one of the first things I took off. Doesn't hold the scope mount to the gun any better than a one piece mount attached direcetly to the reciever (only has three clamping screws - same as the one-piece mount has). And it only made the scope 3/8 inch higher so that I couldn't get my cheek on the stock.
I looked at the link. It says it will fit a Whisper, but without the Gamo spacer rail - aint gonna happen. There's no step, or ledge at the end of the scope mounting grooves in the reciever for it to 'hook' over.

Yep, thanks for that. That is what I thought. I am about to remove the Gamo "Spacer rail" and thought this might be a better way for a mount, but obviously not. The "fit a whisper" must mean with that spacer rail ON.

Well since mine got "BACK ORDERED" I can't tell you :( I would guess it works like the RWS one.

Which scope mount did you get? Accushot? This one?

Nope, this mount with only three clamping screws instead of the four your link shows.

For this scope,
http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/Leapers_Accushot_3_12X44AO_Mini_Rifle_Scope_SWAT_Mil_Dot_Reticle_30mm_Tube/818
This is the mount I wrote about in another thread that the 10-32 stop pin snapped the end off in the reciever. The original stop pin hole in the Whisper reciever is 1/4 inch diameter and the 1/8 inch end of the Accushot mount's stop pin can move in it. The pin end got levered over by the rear edge and snapped off at the lowest thread (stress/fracture point).
To eliminate that happening again I drilled out the 10-32 stop pin hole in the mount and threaded it for a 1/4 bolt. Cut the bolt off 1/8 inch into the shoulder so that there is a full 1/4 inch diameter of 'unthreaded' section that goes down into the 1/4 inch hole in the Whisper reciever. So far, with the pin end the same diameter as the hole in the reciever it hasn't tried to 'egg' out the hole in the reciever like the small diameter pin did. And, the 1/4 inch pin in a 1/4 inch hole has more contact surface area for the force to disperse over.
