: picking the right seal for my big cat
: bhunter66 August 26, 2009, 03:46:39 PM
I've read and seen on here that a lot of people are using the small apex seal and the e3650 spring from James Maccari. I've checked his site and it states that the size of the apex seal is aproximatly 1.028" . I tore down my rifle and the old piston seal measures in at .995,and the bore measures .985". I understand that my old seal will be undersized because it is used. It just seems like that with that bore size i might have problems getting the new seal in there. Maybe my old seal started life that size though???. I'm new to this tune stuff and want to make sure that I order the right parts the first time. Money being tight and all. lol I was lookin at the Maccari site and the new tesla seal (HNTB32) might have a closer measurement to what i need? Just askin'. I'm sure most everyone knows more about this than me but Im learning. Any input is appriciated. Thanks....     Pat

Not really Pat. Your original seal is a hard nylon seal. When I tune a Gamo I always have both the Apex and the Tesla seals on hand. I buy them in batches of 10 to 20 at a time. They are neopreme and much softer than the nylon so they give and compres better in the tube. You should buy one of each of those seals and try a fit. Do not put them in dry and make sure you have removed all the burs along the bottom inside the slots and holesof action before you push the piston and seal in for testing. You should not have to force it in. There should be a few pounds of resistance but no more. I do it by feel because I have done so many. But just be careful when pushing the seal and piston in for fitting purposes.

Macarri offers a problem solver seal kit,...one small "New Gamo" tesla seal,...and a small Apex. I used a Small tesla in my G1, and it turned out real nice. Getting decent FPS,...but not overly powerful for this rifle at all. tjk
