: Just got my .22 cal B-21 today and...
: Evo|ve_S|66 August 27, 2009, 01:43:17 PM
Alright, so I've been in the market for quite some time looking into getting a cheap rifle in the meantime saving up for a Benjamin Disco....heck maybe even a Marauder, who knows! After coming to a conclusion, this rifle would be sufficient. So after a couple days after ordering it, it arrived today. And boy could I have been any happier! I cracked open the box and found a very nice looking rifle. Kinda cheap to the feel and overall cosmetic(s), but hey what can you expect. It sure as heck well made for a cheap springer to say the least. Good feel to it, I like the weight. Nice and heavy. Good matte finishing on the exterior parts. Nice features for such a low price if I don't say so myself =] Anyway, taking it out back and shooting it with some Crosman Points I found that I could easily get a quarter group at 20 yards using the iron sights. Not my best, but hey I just wanted to see what she can do. I will be testing it more next week when I get my scope from BSA, which might be sold to Triry. Haha, anyway I will also be putting up a very extensive review on this rifle as well. I love this thing already! By the way, her name is Autumn  :emoticon:

Cool beans.  I ordered one of those in .22 recently as well.  I hope to be hunting with it next week.  Enjoy.

Oh yeah, I can't wait to shoot this in the evening today! Hopefully I can do something about the sloppy'ness of the side-lever. From what I have found, the more loose the arm is the harder it is to cock.....maybe I'll look into some OEM RWS/Diana 48/52 parts and see if they'll work. If I can do some mods today then I'll post em with some pics =]

And Jim, that's a nice rifle you have there buddy =] Must have had a blast tuning that baby I bet! Oh yeah, are you planning to do any mods to the Big Cat or are you keeping that stock?

If you adjust the cocking arm it will snug up nice, the RWS will fit but they don't add anything other than out of the pocket...get the spring kit from Jm, you will slow it down just a hair but make it like butter...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. I'll go ahead and see what I can do for now. I've looked around the "airrifleheadquarters" website, and they have a ton of parts. I am a little eye blinded by the various names n' such. Here's a couple of things of what I've come up with:

-New-VRT Kit w/seal RWS-Diana 48-52-54, Chinese Sidelevers-B21,22,30, SM1000 - $89.00
-XLR2 RWS-Diana 48-52-54, Chinese Sidelevers-B21,22,30, SM1000 - $75.00

Will those following kits be sufficient, or are there more? I do apologize, but I have never bought an upgrade kit before. So I may be a little dumbfounded on this subject =]

Those are the kits you want. XLR2 = no seal in kit, VRT has a seal included. Whichever you choose get a seal.

Alright, so I've completely disassembled the B-30 today and did some minor touch ups. The only real problem I had was putting the back assembly into the receiver along with the main spring. I did it by hand if you must know =] It seems that the side-lever is a problem when putting it back together, it's more flimsy. I have no idea why, and the main spring is a heck of a lot stronger now. So cocking it isn't as easy as when I got it yesterday. I need to replace some parts, so maybe I can get it working soon. Also maybe I'll send it in to mike to look at it, of course if he has the time! Oh boy did I screw up big time..

-Jarred
: send it on over...
: mikeiniowa August 28, 2009, 12:11:00 PM
If you messed something up I should have parts, even without a kit I can make it more user freindly...if you can get three or more guys together that want 21's let me know...
: Re: Just got my .22 cal B-21 today and...
: Evo|ve_S|66 August 28, 2009, 12:14:36 PM
Oh alright, well so far the parts that are pretty much worn from the tune up were the:

-B21-04A-300 Safety Assembly
-B21-00-9 Nut
-B21-04A-4 Stop Cover
-B21-00-10 Joint Pin
-B21-04A-19 Spring

Sure thing, but I don't know of anybody down here that's a fan of these types of springers. But I'll look around for ya....Alright here are some problems that I've come across: The trigger sometimes sticks back when you pull it all the way, The automatic safety does not work without the safety assembly screw. And a number of other things associated with the side-lever and bore assembly. Also the stock is in pretty bad shape, that I would replace by getting one from xisico directly. How much would you charge for a tune up/repair/and replacing the parts; with shipping, etc?

Alright, so after getting my BSA GE 3-9x50 IRAO scope in the mail today.....wait did I say 3-9x50!? Yep, I did. Why am I so enthusiastic....I'll tell ya, I have recently gotten two defective 3-9x40 scopes within the last couple of weeks from GAMO/BSA. So after writing a letter to BSA, they gave me this one to my surprise =] Anyway, after I mounted it onto Autumn I setup the indoor range. Which is roughly 15-16 yards max, so not a lot of space to properly test the rifle. Okay, so I was able to get oh let's say a penny's worth of groupings. Not bad for a scope that wasn't properly zero'd huh? I have supplied some pictures so you can indulge in them if you wish =] Also I shall start the actual range testing sometime this week, let's hope those bullseye's can be achieved!

Why is it the B30 can't be found anywhere anymore in .22 caliber but the B21 can? What are the differences between the 2, other than the extendable cocking lever and longer barrel of the B21? I have a B30 .22 that I tuned with JM parts and I love it.
Mike, My B30-1 .22 cal shoots at 765 fps with RWS Super Domes. I can't remember if I have the full power spring or not. Which one does it sound like to you, based on velocity?
: Re: Just got my .22 cal B-21 today and...
: Evo|ve_S|66 August 31, 2009, 03:24:36 PM
I was wondering the same thing Jay....that's why I settled with a B-21, being as that the B-30 is only in .177 like you stated above. I have contacted various people and even the company. All replies led to that both rifles were and are the same thing; ex. same parts, same function, same powerplant, etc....it's just the stock, sights, cosmetics and finish that are different. Even the power is the same. You are very fortunate to own a B-30! I need to find myself one =]

I think your B21 stock looks more like an RWS 48 stock. I like it better than the stock on my B30. Maybe I should buy a B21 stock from Xisico. Then I can strip, mod, and refinish my original stock.
: Re: Just got my .22 cal B-21 today and...
: Evo|ve_S|66 September 01, 2009, 01:48:53 PM
Yeah just a bit, however I like the B-30 stock more than mine =] Oh alrighty, you should check with these guys for a B-30 stock:

http://bestairgun.stores.yahoo.net/airrirest.html

They should be able to take care of you if Xisico directly cannot.

thats the full power, most .22's run in the middle 700's with some luck...

Have 2 B-21s in .177- I got the VRT/ seal  and it works great. With guides included- no vibration and much less noise- the other is stock and I would highly recommend giving it a lube tune out of the box, as this one had __no lube__ on the spring and a light coat of rust. A little heavy tar and some moly and all better. The trigger is also adjustable and a polish job would help immensly.  :D

Yup, you got that right Mike =] Anyway, I'm starting on a custom stock for the B-21. I shall post up pictures of what I have....in the mean time, I wanted to supply you guys with a B-21 stock template. Might come in handy one of these days  :emoticon:

I sure won't complain about the velocity. It hits hard. One thing I like about this air rifle is that it takes well to bipod use. I put a UTG clamp on tri rail from PA or CTD(forget which) on the barrel of the B30 and put a bipod on that. Mounted it as far back on the barrel as possible. Sure beats shooting that heavy beast offhand. It's like shooting an M1A/M14 offhand.
: Re: Just got my .22 cal B-21 today and...
: Evo|ve_S|66 September 05, 2009, 04:14:11 PM
I do agree with everything you said =] I will put on a tri-rail barrel mount and a UTG picatinny bipod on there soon.....I've off hand shot this rifle quite a bit, and I must say....it drains you out quickly after 5 or so grouping shots; consecutively shooting 3-4 groups e/a time . Especially in this humid type heat *sigh*.....I think I'll stay inside where it's cold and work on my stock  :emoticon:

: RE: Just got my .22 cal B-21 today and...
: Evo|ve_S|66 October 02, 2009, 02:16:28 PM

Alright so I just got some parts from PA and now it's a true night stalker, hehe =] However, I thought that the UTG/Leapers compensator mount would cover the whole dovetail. But I think that's only for the RWS/Diana side levers....thank goodness I got that offset mount instead of a two-piece! Now my scope won't shift anymore! I think I'll stick with one-piece scope mounts from now on :)

: Re: Just got my .22 cal B-21 today and...
: Jaymo October 05, 2009, 02:50:31 PM
Hey, you've got a flashlight where the bipod is supposed to go. ;-)   Is that the UTG tri-rail mount? I'm going to put a light on one side of mine, with a laser on the other, as the bottom already has a bipod attached.
OUCH!!! Is that a crack in the stock?  Nothing 2 or 3 short pieces of brazing rod and some epoxy won't fix.
I don't blame you on the 1-piece mounts. I'll never go back to 2 piece mounts. I got a couple of  1 piece mounts from uniflame industries off E-bay and put one of them on my R9. I couldn't be happier. No more shifting. Now I just have to decide whether to put the other one on my B40 or on my B30. The B30 has the 4 screw 1 piece mount from BAM. I'm thinking about putting it and it's BAM 3-9X40 on the B40 and put the uniflame 5 screw mount and Leapers 3-9X50 on the B30-1.
: Re: Just got my .22 cal B-21 today and...
: Jaymo October 05, 2009, 02:54:27 PM
What he said. IIRC, one of those kits is listed as being full power and the other is a little slower. Mine is the slower one(I think) and I'm getting 765 fps with RWS .22 superdomes. That's with less than 100 rounds through the gun.
No twang. Nice solid thunk when shot.
: Re: Just got my .22 cal B-21 today and...
: Evo|ve_S|66 October 05, 2009, 03:35:54 PM
Yeah, as soon as I get a bipod I'll reattach the flashlight on the side of the mount. And yep that's a UTG Tri-rail alright =] Mmmhmmm, that is a big old crack alright....I'll see what I can do about it, but for now there's just no time! Want to give me some tips? Haha, I guess there are certain exceptions to two piece mounts. That's if you have a sturdy picatinny base....other than that, nope for me. Hehe, well whichever you decide will be good :) I would put the uniflame on the B30 being as that you'd need a darn good mount for the amount recoil it has!

Happy shooting,

-Jarred

Why don't you send it to Mike M. and he can cut down a B22 barrel and  choke and recrown it to make a B21 into a B30 it's the barrel length that is the bigest difference.I have shortented my barrel and it is still a one holer. Howie

Hmmm, you know what? That sounds like a swell idea, however it's the shipping that's going to be a pain. When I shipped my Quest out to Gene via USPS Priority, the total came out to be $34! Holy cow, maybe UPS can be cheaper.....I'll sure talk to Mike about tuning me shooter soon enough :) I might ask him if he has any access to extra B30 stocks as well, and.....holy cow! That's a nice shooter my friend! Makes me jealous, haha

You know you could file a claim with UPS if that's who shipped it and get reimbursed for the price of a new stock.
If it was damaged during shipment you should be able to get something.
: Re: Just got my .22 cal B-21 today and...
: Jaymo October 06, 2009, 11:55:09 AM
Agreed. The B30 can definitely use the extra clamping force afforded by that 5th screw.
: Re: Just got my .22 cal B-21 today and...
: Jaymo October 06, 2009, 11:58:10 AM
I want to round the forend of my B30 stock just like howie's. I don't like the squared off look of mine as it is. I thought about getting about 3" chopped off my B30 barrel.
: Re: Just got my .22 cal B-21 today and...
: howie1a October 06, 2009, 12:22:55 PM
The B 21 I currently have in 22 cal.  I cut the barrel to 12 inches and it is now only 9 lbs and is still very accurate,If you want ed a B30 in 22 cal since you can't get it anymore why not take a b21 and cut it down to the size of the B30 and re crown the barrel the difference in the cost of the rifle would pay for shipping to Mike if you wanted him to do the work, their is not too much difference between the 2 rifles other than the finish on ths steel instead of a shiny blued finish it is more of a dull finish, not bad just not shiny. Howie
