: just bought a quest 1000-nice!!
: jayschevy August 30, 2009, 10:10:15 AM
got another one yesterday @ academy for 99.00.and i must say compared to the first one i got  in dec. 06.its perfect.the brl at the front has a ramp for the site, like the crosman guns.no splines.the stock is better made-even has some dark color in it.
it has a new trigger, not stamped like my q800.doesnt have alot of kick to it,the brl is real slick. also the stock is longer than on my 800.
i took it down for a lube tune and it was running oil out all the holes, the piston had rust in it.the seal was all buggered up(had a spare).

the breech screw was kind of loose.i deburred and cleaned, then put heavy tar and moly and put it back together.i needed a .177 brk brl to shoot  and i like it ,now just need to site it in.i ran it over my combro this morning,i didnt check it before hand.but after i thought it did good.
gamo 7.56grn-844 fps
cphp 7.9grn-827
beeman 1239) 8.4 grn.-779fps
gamo w\steel tip 9.1 grn-778 fps
daisy w\steel tip 9.1 grn-756 fps
cp magnum 10.5 grn.-710 fps
eun jin 16.1 grn.-536 fps
i think its pretty good, now i dont have to pump 500 times to shoot these hvy pellets :) but i got 559 fps out of my 1377 w\16.1 eun jins.15 pumps.crosman via china did good on this gun.  p.s.i almost forgot the spring guide fits the spring perfectly no slop.

Grats on your new Quest!

I home tuned my Quest 1k as well.  Replaced the seal and fixed the screwed up safety.   It's not the most accurate in the stable, but light wight and a good shooter with iron sights!  She's got some kick!

So what's the trigger like?  Can you post a photo?  I installed an insert instead of the GRT-III.  The insert is a big improvemtent, and someday I may get a Charlie Trigger.

My trigger is the stamped and rolled one.

Congrats on your new purchase.  Just don't shoot those heavy pellets too much (10 gr. and up).....or you might shorten the life of your spring.

Shoot the heck out of it, the more you shoot it the better it will get. They need a long run in to be their best, if the spring breaks then you have to get the JM replacement, won't that be awful...

Thr one I've got shoots like a dream nice and smooth and in the 1000 fps range also the trigger I didn't put in the charlie trigger but just changed the trigger return spring ( I made a new one from SS spring mtl fishing leader mtl. ) it's a lot lighter than it was before and  the trigger is now a lot nicer and  lighter. howie

i wa going to take pics but i broke my camera, kodak and 15lb. barbells dont go well together.lol
i ordered some breech seals and a back spring guide for my 800,later i'll order some more seals from jm.this gun doesnt kick like my first one.the tube was bored out to wide(where the breech goes)and i didnt realize it was crap.or i would have taken it back.they are getting to be better made now. thanks for the congrats, much appreciated.
p.s. the trigger looks like a grt without the adj. screws.not a bad pull on it.

Hey guys, I have had my Quest 1000, for 4 months ,put in a GRT trigger. refinshed the stock, moly 60 the main spring, added a 3x9x32 Simmons,
I'm at about 800-1000 pellets ran in it. I just can't get a good group with any pellet it's shooting around 2" at 20 yards.
using crose wadcutters,Gamo wadcutters,Gamo point hunter, gamo match, croseman hunters. they all are dissapointing me 2" is the best I can get?
Is me? or is it the guns Quality?
Any in put on the Quest shooting Groups?
what could help me hit cans.:(.

First check all of your screws and make sure they are tight. If that dosen't help then work on your hold technique. Practice using a very lite to no grip on the forstock. Last, try some RWS Superdomes, Crosman Primiers, Beeman Kodiak Match, and JSB pellets and see if any of they shoot any better.

Have you shot her with just "Iron" sights to make sure it's not a scope/scope mount issue?

I'm assuming you've read all the other responses in the other threads.... Tightening the stock screws evenly, make sure the barrel pivot screw/bolt is tight, same hold at same spot on rifle etc. Check the muzzle crown with a Q-tip to make sure it's smooth. And hate to say....test more different pellets.

My Crosman Storm XT and a friend's G1 Extreme shoot's excellent. My Gamo Viper, Big Cat and Whisper (All similar to the Crosmans) shoot's excellent also. They're all not tuned except for abit of JM Heavy Tar on their springs and a GRT III trigger (The G1 don't even have those). We can shoot spent shotgun shells out to 40 yard distances, 7 to 8 times out of 10 off a front rest. Most of the above mentioned air rifles enjoy the generally available Crosman Wads, Hunting and Premier Hollow Points. For really accurate shooting like for the GTA Shooting Matches....the Viper likes the Beeman Kodiaks and the Sierra Pro likes the Gamo Match.

Talking about the Crosman Sierra Pro....she's the only airgun I had ALOT of accuracy problems with....so did another GTA member here....tjk. He had his tuned by Gene and she shoots great now. I tried everything with mine but couldn't get even a 1" group with her at 8 meter distances. I did a poor man's tune....heavy tar on spring, GRT III trigger and finallycompressed the spring for 10 hours.....twice.... to lessen it's power.....and now she shoots great. With a scope I can now get 7mm groups out of her at 10 meter distances....she's so good now......I took off her scope and use her for the 25 Yards Open Sights Rifle Match. I think some of the Crosman (And other brands) springs are abit stronger than others....and maybe some are weaker. Maybe you should try it to see if it works. Abit less power to get excellent accuracy is worth it. And this would be a cheap fix if it works. Good luck.

My Quest I bought used here and after using it a while it went and snapped shut while I was loading it well it snapped the stock and since it was a problem that involved the sear and the lock up in the piston I called Crossman and bought a new trigger and piston the piston came with a new seal too. and not too much cost. so now I have a almost new gun I also repaired the stock epoxyed it back together and put a 1/2 inch dowel in the pistol grip to reinforce it. and added a new raised cheek plate too, it now shoots in the 860 fsp with a 10 high to low difference nice and consistent , it's a real one hole shooter. I really like the Quest rifles very nice and accurate too. howie PS I shoot iron sights most of the time.

Yep , It must be in the way I'm holding her?
alll screws lock tight down , checked with open sights -shoot the same .
so I'll keep working on the Artillery hold.
it's just that my Big cat shootes just fine it30 yards. with crosman wadcuters & Hunters.

Gamo Big cat 117.
crossman Quest 1000
& TF67 on the way!! :)

Great News on your new Quest!!! They are great economy shooters for general purpose use,...pest removal,...close quarter hunting (35 yards and in, ...if your shots are well placed),..and just plain beer can plinking fun!,...or what ever you have on hand,...veggy cans,..cola bottles, etc. You've got a super "utility" rifle that's up for just about any challenge within reason!!! Fill a soda bottle up 3/4 of the way with sand and "de-capitate" the screw on cap,...always a good and fun target to shoot at. I shot my Sierra-Pro so much,..I simply wore out the Macarri spring in it. I will say that it takes about 3000 rounds through it to bring it up to its full accuracy potencial, and what ever you do,..don't fall into the "clean the barrel squeeky clean" after a few hundred shots BS. I believe it was our good friend Ronbeaux that said the worst thing he ever did with his TX-200 was to clean the barrel after 15 years,...and it was like he had to start all over from scratch!!!!! I will advise that you try some beter made pellets,...Beemans are always a good stand-by,..in particular the FTS's,....RWS and JSB's are a step up,....all dependant on your weapon of course. For accuracy,....stick with the dome type pellets,....but for now,...with a fresh and un-seasonned rifle,...run a few 500 count CPHP tins through it to season the barrel,.....like 6 or 8 tins worth,..then move up to the better pellets,....Gamo pellets?!?,....they rate right up there with the rest of the non-lead/hyper velocity pels,...worthless. The only Gamo pellet that ever gave me decent results were the Hunters,...but that's about it. At the very least,..I would seriously recommend a deburr/lube tune for your rifle,...you'll be amazed at the improved performance. Add a GTR-III trigger and you'll think you got a "match-rifle" in your hands!!!!!  Happy plinking! tjk

Its called dieseling and its normal for new guns. Happens because of unwanted oil in the chamber and should minimize over the next 200-300 pellets.

But i ran about 800+ pellets through it,
sould this be time for a new seal?
I've had mine abuot 4-5 months.
i see a brown color burn at the end of the barrel?
is this a problem of some kind ,
Ron

800+ shots is about average for some airguns. Maybe you need another tin to break-in the gun. Brown smoke and a loud "bang" is most likely grease/oil getting into the compression chamber. The piston seal might have a small leak. Shoot the AG more to see if that happens again.....to be sure.

Sounds like you've got a bad seal. They usually get nicked at the factury during installation. You really won't notice it until after a few hundred rounds when the seal beds in and the hot comression gasses start to burn through the nick. Best thing to do is perform a lube tune and install a new seal. Once that's done, you'll have a whole new shooter. You'll stop liking it and start LOVING it! hehe
