If guns are outlawed then you will be set Peter.. That is the only Tip I can give you..:)

That looks totally cool. They are not legal for hunting in some places here, and others they are. I have always wanted one but never got around to it, still on the "someday" list with my muzzleloader.
A friend of mine got one back in Michigan for deer on a disability waiver for archery season. He got a nice deer with it last year.
However, I was about 200m away, and when he zapped the deer, it sounded like a car crash in the woods! It is nothing like a gun, but man was that thing loud! There are sound deadeners made just for them, and I think you might want to look into them. He also has a really nice case that looks like it is for a musical instrument, due to the unusual shape.
Nice toy!
Funny, but the forum rules changed my original term to "muzzlebrakes", which is pretty funny on a crossbow!

i myself am a practicing archer. i don't use crossbows but i know a thing or two about arrows and archery.
aluminum arrows are more or less just for practice. you need carbon ones, with those you can do some serious hunting. i suggest you go to a archery pro shop so they could give you proper arrows for your xbow. arrows usually are dependent on poundage so make sure it's appropriate for 150lb. for hunting you need broad-head type arrow tips. pay some attention to your wings.
wax your string regularly so it last's longer.
i don't really have the time right now to go into all the details, because there are many, but the internet is your best friend.
also check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF0QNo2F3Bk&feature=channel
it's horton's youtube channel and has alot of info.
oh and...NEVER dry fire your bow. just like dry firing an airgun it's the same with bows.

I own two bows and used to shoot them quite abit a few years ago. Not to nit-pick.....but arrows for crossbows are called bolts.
Great looking x-bow Kiwi.....you'll have lots of fun with it. And what geiger said....don't dry-fire you x-bow.....the limbs can blow up on you!!!!!

Not to take seriousissue, but I have shot compounds for at least 20 years and I shoot purtnera yard of aluminum with every shot. I don't use an overdraw, don't use a release, but I do use sights. I have whacked a few deer, the longest distance being 39 paces, which is a long shot in Michigan (where we ambush hunt from trees). I don't shoot enough to justify more cost per arrow and I have found that aluminum arrows do their job, but just like pellets, "shot placement is everything". They seem more forgiving of a bad release than carbon, which is likely shooting fingers, with a hangover.
In the West you might be lucky to stalk up to 60 yards and then the carbon darts might be just the ticket, but I don't do that.
With your crossbow, you are talking about very short bolts and much higher velocities from a more stable platform. I have no useful insight on bolt materials or much of anything else, except to note that the one I heard kill a deer was very LOUD compared to my ratty old Indian Xi Impact. Ihave missed a deer (this is a subject on which I have few equals), reloaded, andshot again, when conditions were right (usually with better results). The crossbow would not have permitted that, but from what I saw they were like shooting a .303 within75 yards.
