I was wondering if any of you could part with some info on DIY bed liner materials.

I have been thinking of painting the weights and the weight bench that I use and keep outside most of the time.  It occured to me that maybe bed liner coatings may be a better choice though.   Primarily thinking of preventing rust.  Anybody here got any  comments if this may or may not work??? Any particular brand better than others or easier to use?

I spend almost as much time getting out ( and putting back ) the bench and weights as I do actually working out.
