Messing with some different idea's with bare stock's, bringing out the grain then thinking about splashing a light stain over it. It would be finished with a clear but still got the other side to grain up so to speak along with the bottom. This is just something that I'm trying out, don't know where it's headed lol but will keep after it. I had a spare stock laying around to experiment with and it will hold a Gamo action in the end, will keep you updated if I'm liking where it's headed hehe. Ed

Man I LOVE that! Looks similar to a laminated stock with more character!!!
Are you tracing over the natural grain with the airbrush or are you stenciling/freehanding the grain work?
-
Thank you brothers it let's me know that I'm headed in the right direction I think lol. Yup Timmy you gotta get something to me to do bro hehe, Sam I'm air brushing over the original grain lines with dark brown. I'm thinking that when I put the stain to it the other spec's of grain here and there will then stand out and give the stock more depth and a real wood effect.:) Ed
-
I finished up with defining the grain in the wood then applied one coat of Antique Walnut stain and that's just enough to give it the look that I was looking for.:) For the stock's that have grain that just doesn't stand out or wood stock's with lack of nice grain, just define the grain or add some and presto hehe. I'm happy with one coat so I will let the stain cure then work on sealing the stock. This was just a idea that I had been mulling over and what better stock to try it on the my own hehe. Ed

That is excellent, Ed. I envision several coats of clear, gloss finish polished to a glass-like finish, and she will be a looker for sure.

That's what I'm thinking Brother.:) Ed

-
I think that one needs a really "thick" super gloss poly finish on her!!(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif)Three sprayed on coats should do it!!(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif)Once again,,, simply outstanding work Ed my Hunt Brother!! Tim.
-
Thanks brother's and Timmy she should be a shimmering baby when I'm done ,,,I hope hehe. Ed
-
Kudos Ed!!! That is BEAUTIFUL!!!
I agree with the High Gloss finish too! I'd go with multiple hand rubbed coats of TruOil.
-
Thank you Sam and I have all kind's of sealer's,clear's and now it's just a matter of what I want to slap on it hmmm.:) Ed
-
on, dry then lightly sanded then another coat on. I will hit it again with light sanding then apply 2 more coat's of clear then rub it out for a nice shine. Ed

Say Ed . . .
By the way, what Gamo action doe that old beater stock you have been practicing on actually fit?
-
Thanks Stanley, Tommy it a ol Quest stock and the Gamo actions fit perfect except for the CFX and of coarse the Magnum Gamo's. That's why I hung on to the stock and planned on doing something with it one day.:) Ed
