The squirrel invasion of my yard continues.  This is really baffling me, I just don't know where they're all coming from.  I looked out the sliding glass doors into the back yard and there were 6 squirrels hanging all over the bird feeders, one of em chewing on one of the feeders trying to make the dispensing hole in the feeder even bigger.

I went into the basement, grabbed my .177 S1k with the Golden Antler scope and quietly made my way out of the basement into the backyard.  As soon as I stepped out all the squirrels scattered.  I kept my eye on one of the larger ones as he scurried way up to the top of one of the big trees in the yard.  I lost sight of him as he neared the top, but I knew he was up there.

I must've slowly circled the tree a dozen times but I just could not spot him, so I tried a different tactic.  I have some very thick, very tall pine trees bordering one side of my property, so I took refuge inside the thick branches of the trees and quietly waited as I scanned the tree tops.   After about 10 minutes I suddenly saw something that just didn't look right,,,, it was dark and round and shiny.   I put the scope up, dialed it to 9 power and took a look.  Yup, there he was, glaring at me with his little beady eye.  I still didn't have a shot, not enough of the head showing, so I just waited.

Sure enough, after 5 more minutes he moved just enough to give me the head shot I needed, distance was 20 yards.  Put the crosshairs below his ear, squeezed,,,, heard the "THWACK", he hung there for a second, then let go and hit the ground.  Game over.......

He's resting in the freezer with his buddies :)

Jeff, sound's and look's like your a man on a mission. :) From the look of those sun shadow's , your getting some good weather there and action. Nice shot placement AS ALWAY'S AND KEEP EM COMING.! We got a blizzard here right now and I have been out wading in 3ft plus snow looking for dinner. Nothing is moving, no foxes , no bushytail's not even a rabbit. They know to stay put in this weather but when it break's they'll be out in force. No worries though, give's me time to get some time on the B26-2 and get some pic's taken of my project's. Again super shot Jeff. :) hunting, Ed

Thanks Ed,,,,, we had torrential rains all night and most of the day, was raining so hard it was amazing.  Then all of a sudden, around 3 pm, the skies cleared, the sun came out, the wind completely died and it was like a spring day.

After I got this bushytail cleaned and in the freezer I went back outside and got in about an hour of really enjoyable target shooting.  I had a couple of other squirrels sitting up in the trees watching me punch paper, but they weren't harassing my bird feeders so I called a temporary truce.  :)

Tomorrow, if the weather holds, gonna get the .177 B26-2 sighted in and chrony'd.  Really looking forward to
that :)

Great Shootin Jeff,

And a great stalk, patients is the sign of a true hunter, or was that a mad husband,... I can't remember.

You know if we don't cull these critters, they'll take our homes over! So keep up the good work !

But good shootin pard !

The Best,

Bill

Jeff
the reason you have a tree rat explosion is that your neighbor three doors down has been feeding them an unlimited supply of nuts all winter...LOL..
Enjoy the back yard safari as long as you can, nothing like taking game then walking inside and grabbing a quick cup of joe.

It's one of my Golden Antler 3x9x32's and those are the rings that it came with, they hold really well and haven't moved one bit.
