I got my CFX back from Rich last night, after he had done a custom tune on it for me.
This is the sequence of events / things I saw upon opening the box:
1. the new custom muzzle break looks awesome.
2. The carbon look on the barrel took me about 20 minutes to get used to, but I have to admit that now I like, it gives
the rifle a “trick†look.
3. It also looks a lot “cleaner†with the sites off.
Now for the stuff that matters:
1. The rifle cocks very smoothly. You cannot even begin to compare it to how it was before
2. The loading block, a lot improved here:
a. It turns / rotates very easily and very smoothly now
b. The pellets literally just “drop†into the barrel now too after the loading channel was polished and widened.
c. I can immediately feel when the loading block catches a pellet now because of how much easier it rotates.
d. It no longer over-rotates, this is great. I never realized that it bugged me till it stopped doing it hehe!
3. The trigger, it is super light now, took some getting used to not having to pull the "door spring". All it
takes now is a gentle squeez....... like it should be.
4. Did I mention how quite it is now 8)
5. FPS is up around 100fps more.
6. very consistent now too.
Rich this rifle is Awesome, thank you very much.
Roald.
PS I'll post pics of the rifle with the custom muzzle break... looks sweet!
and the chrony results - it gained almost 100fps !
-
Hey Roald, that is an impressive increase in FPS. Would be interesting to see some target pics on how well it groups now. You must have an exceptional CFX because most .177 ever get above 950 FPS with lite pellets.
Good luck
Gene

Gene,
Unfortunately the pellets used in the crony test aren't the same weight..(ran out of CP lites). but it's
pretty obvious from this that it was pretty weak to start with... but way better now:
Before Tune:
Crossman Premier lites (7.9Grs) Average 803fps
After the tune:
RWS Super Mags (9.5Grs) Average 866fps so it's safe to assume that a 7.9 Gr pellet will easily crack 900fps.
I'm ordering a Chrony today and should have it mid week. I'll take a couple of days off and run some numbers to post.
(I've bought a bunch more CP Lites to test it with so at least I'll have a true before / after.

What spring did he put i nthe gun for you? those numbers are impressive indeed
-
This is everything that Rich did in the service:
With the tune you get a new JM E2000 mainspring and custom fitted front and rear guides to that spring,
clean and polish all moving parts,
replace piston seal if needed,
dissemble the trigger and set it up for a true two stage operation,
custom six inch muzzle brake, Rich gave me a custom 9" muzzle break, see pics.
re machine the loading block for a standard "O" ring.
Before and after testing is done and the results are included with the rifle
and all old parts replaced are returned.
Here's some shots of the rifle / Muzzle break. You can really tell it's size when the CFX is along side the RWS 350 and 1250.
Note the carbon finish on the break. Sweet 8)
The last Pic is the groups I got after re-mounting the scope, while sat on a garden chain in my back yard at 18 yards
(pardon the few fliers.... I'm still training my finger to use the new trigger :D (they are numbered 1st to 3rd and were
done while setting the scope )
all I need now is a better scope for the 350 hehe!

The spring is a JM E2000 spring which is the spring I have been using as of late because my supply of tarantulas ran out and JM no longer makes them.
I tried the E1500 spring with so so results it is not quite as strong as the Tarantula spring, the E200 gives much better results and I have been useing that spring for the last month.
In fact I have to order another bunch because I only have a couple left and there are 3 gamos on the way right now. The rifle has a new seal, which I install in all my tunes and it will get a increase in plellet speed as the rifle breaks in.
