I'M WONDERING if anyone has or has shot both. I know that they are both accurate but I'm about to purchase one of them and I want the most bang for my buck. If you had $700 which one would you buy and why.

Don't poke sticks at the monkeys!!

I have shot all 4 of them. The price differnce is somewhat large, as you are going from 400 to 700 dollars. let me start by saying that the xl tactical is a smooth quiet and compact carbine, with the emphasis in hunting and portability. Low maint synthetic stock is an aquired taste. I am a wood kind of guy, so i would buy the non tactical. the RWS 52 is the same as the 48, but with deluxe stock. they are heavy sidelevers, hunting accurate and very powerful. is a rifle that will take game at 50 yards, no problem. it just weights a ton so it will be an excellent bench rifle, if it wasn't for recoil... which brings me to the 54. it is essentially a 52 riding on stock rails to slide and absorb its own recoil. You can bench this one, making it a very accurate rifle. Again, weight is a concern. And i do not like the way it slides while cocking. i like rifles to feel solid, as one piece. Your last choice, the TX200 is an awesome rifle. good contender for FT or HFT as well as field work and hunting. it is powerful and it will evn hunt on a .177 due to his inate accuracy.it feels awesome, it looks awesome and is a beautiful piece. the only down side is the hefty price tag. I would choose the TX if i could afford it. I shoot FT and like to do long range work (i shoot a bam B40, essentially a TX 200 clone, constantly bouncing a can at 100 yards. It is tuned to shoot as close to a TX, but at the end of the day, sitting on my man chair in my den, i am still looking at a BAM, and not a TX...
A close second is the BSA, in walnut... and not necessarily a XL... maybe a supersport, which is like the meteor, but bigger and more powerful. I love the way that rifle shoots, sometimes just shooting it to feel the solid thunk it makes when it fires........

I'm now leaning more towards the tx with walnut stock. I've read to many reviews about the poor scope rails on all of the rws models. People are mounting bases incorrectly just to get them to work. I've even found out that the BSA line is now being manufactured it turkey and quality control has gone down hill. i.e. loose shroud problems. And I can't seem to find the BSA with a walnut stock. Anyone know where I can find one?
-
the BSA name is owned by gamo. they are not made in turkey. i think you might be talking about webley. they are owned by hatsan in turkey. look at the supersport... no shroud, no problem. i think Airguns of Az has them. Cobra airguns also can get them for you.
-
yes, you are correct. I was thinking of webley.
-
The Tx200 is the best of all mentioned. No question. No debate.
-
That's exactly what I wanted to hear! I can already smell the walnut stock.

Here in South Africa the TX200 series of air gun springers is rated the best. Close rivals HW97K. TS200 shoots well straight out of the box. Everything else needs tuning.

I work for a telecommunications company here in arkansas. Squirrels have caused me lots of heartache and some serious labor intensive work. So killing them in my off time gives me great pleasure. How ironic that i'm watching a hunt in south africa right now. What type of small pest do you guys hunt with air guns over there?
-
I love my HW-97 .177. The HW I can shoot more accuately than the TX. But out of the box the TX is very nice. I detuned my TX to make it easier to cock. It only shoots in the mid 800's now with JSB Exacts. But very accurate. If you really want accuracy and power then a PCP would be the a great choice. I have an FX Cyclone .22 which develops up to 35 fpe and can out shoot any of my springers. Very accurate and devestating at 50 yards out.
Good Luck....:)

You made it tough on me but I went with the TX . It was tough not to order the pro sport. The BSA will be next!

If you hold off to long you will not find a BSA Lightning XL that is made in the UK. They are being sent to Spain at the Gamo plant to be produced. Who knows what the quality will be.
