Ok this will be my first year hunting in the cold weather with my big cat. I know in the late rabbit and nutter seasons that it could conceivebly get into the single digits out :p . For those that have hunted or even target practiced in very cold temps, how will my rifle respond . Will it loose some power because of the piston seal being stiff from the cold? Or will I even notice a diference in it's performance? Just trying to get an idea what to expect. Thanks......Pat

I hunt every winter and my shooters have performed just fine even in temps that drop to the teens and single digit's when I lived out in South Dakota. Ed

Thanks Ed. I appreciate it. I was hoping that it would still shoot the same. Didn't want to have to learn to shoot all over again LOL :D ...Pat

Pat,
Where in Illinois do you live, I am also in IL and would love someone to shoot with.

Do you need to worry about condensation on or inside the rifle when you return indoors? Do you leave the rifle in the mud-room for awhile to slow warm up? Or put it on the radiator?

I leave all my hunting gear out to warm to room temp and dry before putting it away to help prevent rust. Pat I live down in Fulton county, I figure I'm probable at least two hours from you. It would be great to have someone to shoot with though.:) I was up there a month or so ago to the route66 nationals. I figure thats about how long it took to get there. Maybe if there are enough shooters in our area there could be some kind of fun shoot get together for us all :) It kinda sounds like it's gonna be a good time out at Timmy's this weekend....Pat

It's good to leave it in a warm room to dry out any moisture on the shooter then wipe it down. :) Ed

I haven't hunted in cold weather, - but do target shoot. I've had to adjust my sights - usually hits a tad low compared to moderate temps. Not a big deal though, ...
