I WAS BORING OF THE BROWN COLOR OF THIS RIFLE, SO I PAINTED METALIC ORANGE 4 MONTHS AGO.
PROBLEM: THE PAINT WAS PELLING OFF
NOW.... I WILL DO A WOOD STAINING JOB AND SOMETHING MORE ERRATIC WITH $2.95 TOTAL !!!
I WILL USE A HAND SAW, 2 ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS AND 2 BOLTS.
WATCH THE BEGINNING

NICE JOB PHILL... I SAW YOUR THREAD A WEEK AGO...
IN ADDITION I SAW THE WOOD PATTERNS OF YOUR RIFLE.
NOW THE STAINING DESIGN THAT I WANTED I CAN NOT DO IT, BECAUSE
1. I AM NOT A WOOD EXPERT AND THE WOOD PATTERNS DO NOT HELP ME.
2. I WILL STAIN WOOD BY FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE.
3. I DID A STAIN TEST IN THE STOCK WOOD AND I DO NOT LIKED THE FIRST COLOR.
I WILL TRY ANOTHER COLOR APPLICATION WITH STAIN.
I WILL TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION:
I USED A PAINT STRIPER AND A RAG FOR THE INSIDE AREA OF THE STOCK. I REAPETED THE PROCESS IN THIS AREA BETWEEN 3 TO 4 TIMES.

-
nice location beautiful women must go again so u decided on a color????
-
So you spent a little bit in Puerto Rico that nice in 97... If you come now... San Juan have now more new structures and the island in overall have change a lot.
. The women is another story... you know what I mean!!!! Sweet....
About the stain color for the RWS 48 I wanted something IN COLOR RED... but the stains are not so bright and light as I wanted... but I will mix a Minwax Sedona red #222 with Natural to light the color 50% lighter. I want the color light to see the wood details...because It took me a lot hand sanding to get the real wood color... but at the end We will see the results.

It's looking fantastic sir, great job and the gloss should really make it stand out. :) Them are some huge footprint's that I see in the background, gonna need a bigger shooter to bring down that hairy man-ape lol. Ed
-
FIRST COAT OF CLEAR
IT IS GETTING BETTER
-
its lookin better i cant wait to its fully asembled ,how many coats will it take 3 or more ...jorge..
-
I WILL APPLY 3 OR 4. I WANT THE RIFLE WITH A DEEP VERY GLOSS CLEAR
-
THE APPLICATION WITH BRUSH IT IS NOT SO EASY TO AVOID BUBBLES... WELL I WILL SEE TO MAKE CORRECTIONS IN THE GLOSS APPLICATION.
-
PROBLEM WITH THE HAND BRUSH CLEAR AFTER THE THIRD APPLICATION.... TOO MANY DRIPS AND BUBBLES.
I AM STANTING AGAIN FROM THE BEGINNING. ALL THE CLEAR AND STAIN IN A REMOVAL PROGRESS.
WELL I AM LEARNING ...
-
That's nice stain. Is that also Minwax and what's the name of the stain? Looking good
-
THAT IS THE SEDONA RED #222
-
THAT IS MINWAX RED SEDONA #222
-
goo d job , keep it up.
-
Geraldo,
My suggestion is to switch to Birchwood-Casey Tru-Oil and rub the finish in with your fingers. A brush on finish is going to be real tough to get right, as you already see with drips, bubbles, streaking. Use your fingers with real light coats, it will take about four or five to get the gloss you want.
-
DAVID.... I saw an a video that true oil has a little dark color... that is what I don't want darker than the new stain I applied today with 2 tones. I have a polyurethane in spay from minwax.... but I do not know if let the rifle just stainned and polish that with steel wool (ultra fine) for shine the stock and then use a litte rubbing compound... I REALLY DO NOT KNOW IF ALL THIS PROCESS IS THE CORRECT. JUST LET ME KNOW IF ALL THAT CAN BE DONE.
THANKS DAVID
GERALD
-
(PHOTOS TAKEN AT NIGHT)
STARTED ALL PROCESS FROM THE BEGINNIG AND USE ANOTHER STAIN AND TWO TONES APPLIED. MORE NATURAL TEXTURE.
RWS 48
-
Geraldo,
Tru-Oil does not darken or lighten the wood. It is a linseed oil based finish. I have finished several stocks with it, with excellent results.
Check it out, go to Birchwood Casey's website.
-
DOES TRU OIL MAKES THE STOCK FEEL SOFT?
-
nope, never had that problem with Tru-Oil. You don't want to be banging the gun around and hitting the stock on stuff, but that would be the case with any finish.
I'm not a B-C salesman, by the way, just a satisfied customer.
-
Thanks DAVID... I check already at PYRAMID AIR is on backorder I will check the page you told me. THANKS AGAIN.
-
Nice thread going on here. BTW why are you typing in all caps? As far as the finishing goes I am sure some of the older wiser members will post up here and give you advice.... but your going to want to do more than 3-4 coats to get a high gloss finish that your looking for. prob close to 10 coats, and btw each coat should be very light.

THE FINAL PRODUCT

PRETTY TRANSFORMATION!
