My wife turns on the TV, one of the things I despise about the country, and I see commercials.  Hybrid this, love the Earth that.  Energy efficient air conditioning, yeah, maybe you should build houses with insulation and ceiling fans first.  Anyway, with all the windows open, the air feels nice.  But, as an animation of a young kid hugging the earth flashes on the screen, I start to choke.  Not because it's sad, or my wife stepped on my foot again, but because my apartment is surrounded by white smoke.

It's that time again.  Rice has been harvested, so, in order to "MOTTAINAI", which means don't waste, the unofficial national slogan, all the farmers around Japan burn what is left.  Yeah, no recycling, or composting, just burn it all.  At school last week I couldnt see the far fence at my school becuase the air was too white.  My sini hate me and it's hard to eat or breath without the windows closed and air conditioner running

I think to myself, isn't there a word for this, something about a hippo.  SHouldn't your slogan be love the earth, smoke it up!

Sorry, just had to get that out there.  Serously, my brother came over for a weekend, and there were times we had to stop the car because we couldn't see the road.  I just don't get it.  Not gonna mention all that whale and dolphin stuff.

Hmmm....wonder why they don't gather it up and use it to heat homes in the winter or for homes further up north?

Hmmm...why not rice paper instead of tree paper?

For the same reason your MacDonald's hamburger and small coke are put in different bags.  It's what is done, so its what they do.  And I think rice paper is pretty expensive, as is rice.

My family enjoyed their stay in Japan while I was stationed there. I spent 2 yrs In Yokosuka then brought the family on my tour in Sasebo for three years, wife enjoyed spending my money on Various vases she collected, Arita, Fukugawa, Blue boys & Noritake along with Lladro's from Aafes bases. Last tour was in Okinawa for another three years..my boys loved shabu-shabu and yakiniko's eateries. We all enjoyed those tours and it was pretty safe for the family to live in Japan. One time I left my camera out of town and when I went back to the place 2 days after..I got it back from the owner. I eventually lost that camera when I left it again in a military base for GI's eatery and It was probably 10 minutes when I returned to retrieve it. That's why during newcomers orientation we were warned to keep our cars locked up while in a  U.S. military bases. Out of  town it's different..you can  even leave your car keys in your ignition and leave it there and it will stay there.
