Senators turn back ID requirement for immigrant healthcare
By Jeffrey Young - 09/30/09 01:03 PM ET

Senate Finance Committee Democrats rejected a proposed a requirement that immigrants prove their identity with photo identification when signing up for federal healthcare programs.

Finance Committee ranking member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said that current law and the healthcare bill under consideration are too lax and leave the door open to illegal immigrants defrauding the government using false or stolen identities to obtain benefits.

Grassley's amendment was beaten back 10-13 on a party-line vote.

The bill, authored by committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.), would require applicants to verify their names, places of birth and Social Security numbers. In addition, legal immigrants would have to wait five years, as under current law, after obtaining citizenship or legal residency to access federal healthcare benefits such as Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program or receive tax credits or purchase insurance through the exchange created by the legislation.

But the would not require them to show a photo ID, such as a drivers license. Without that requirement, the bill "remains dearly lacking when it comes to identification," Grassley said. "Frankly, I'm very perplexed as to why anyone would oppose this amendment," he said.

But Democratic Sen. Jeff Bingaman, who represents the border state of New Mexico, said that the type of fraud Grassley said he wants to prevent is highly uncommon. "The way I see the amendment, it's a solution without a problem," Bingaman said.

And that's why the Americans and Canadians are in debt....up to the eyeballs.  Everything to the free-loaders to get some more votes in the future......

Word is that the Senate will add the public option health care provisions as an amendment to the current TARP bill.  So, even though the "public option" is dead - doesn't have the votes in the Senate, this will allow the House to "reconcile" the Senate's amended Tarp bill and send it back to the Senate, where a simple 51 vote majority will bypass the messy constitutional requirements for passing health care legislation.  They will be able to ram it down our throats, against broad based opposition of the American voting public, and pass the "government option" health care provision, perhaps as early as next week.  Of course, the provisions don't take effect until 2013, a year after the next general election.

Bend over.  Here comes more government stimulus, folks.  The US Congress doesn't give a rat's rump what the American people want.  And don't any of you liberal types give me any lip.  If this were above the board and being debated in an honest fashion, it would never pass the smell test.  Our elected crooks and tax cheats know that, so they are sneaking it through.

BTW, did you know Harry Reid also arranged for Nevada and 4 other states ( colleagues votes he needed, I suppoes) to be exempt from the additional Medicare taxes the new legislation will entail?  But no worry, taxpayers in the other states will pick up the bill.

This is a PERFECT example of why the 2010 elections are so freakin' important. ... We desperately need to change the mindset of those in Washington. Congress knows what the country wants & doesn't want, and chooses to ignore what it doesn't agree with. ... My Congressman here, totally avoided "town hall" meetings this year (NOT in other years) - last night I got a phone call telling me to "stay on the line" - Hodes was going to hold a "town meeting" over the phone in a few minutes, and I was invited. Told the caller it was a bit late for this BS - and hung up.
.
BTW TCup, - that Reid thing sounds unconstitutional, bears looking into.

Oh, and BTW, Reid is pushing through another bill that would establish 63 NEW federal judgeship positions, all of course, to be appointed by the current administration.  By flooding the federal judiciary with 63 new political appointees (all sure to be liberals), they don't have to worry about any issues with judicial review of some of the new laws that are being enacted.

2010 elections aside, there probably isn't a damned thing that can be done about this move.  More brazen than even FDR in stacking the courts.

WAKE UP!!!

What sorry state we find ourselves in these days.    The push to legalize illegal aliens is strictly for the purpose of securing a base of dependent voters.  Where does it end?

Let's give the illegals checking accounts so they  can write checks for purchases without I.D.  And no money to back up those checks.

But We  ,as citizens, will still be required to show I.D.?

We only need to look at Europe to find examples of the problems associated with unbridled Immagration.

What   Nation or Country  or society  has ever survived that could not or would not control it's own  borders.

And as far as Voting out this current crop of Idiots ,  Who really has much hope that it will happen?
