I received my TF89 yesterday around 6 pm and I opened it and it was very nice looking, I cleaned it all up and went to shoot it, the first 20 shoots go off without a hitch, the gun is a lot harder to cock than my b26 but no big deal, the trigger was stiff but predictable, I went to shoot it the last time and the safety failed to engage so the barrel wouldn't lock up, I tried 3 times to cock it and the stock cracked it two places along where the stock bolts to the action, I was so dissapointed because it was a beatiful stock and it cracked bad, good news is Compasseco is going to send me a new stock and the tech guy told me how to fix the safety problem, but it was a very dissapointing evening, I hated to see a beatiful stock like that break, and it broke rather easy, I was just trying to cock it, I wasn't getting rough with it, but I guess the pressure of me trying to cock it and the spring being compressed and trying to push back was just to much and it cracked at the thinnest part of the wood where the holes were at,
-
Well, that would be disappointing and I'm glad Compasseco is stepping up for you. Nothing worse than anticipation spoiled by an out-of-the-box failure.
My worst case was the Marksman 2004/P17 fiasco. I was all fired up after reading about it, it finally appears on my doorstep, my trembling fingers load up the first pellet, and "click-hisssss". Nada. No joy.
Midsouth sent me a call tag and shipped another. Anticipation, click, hiss. Lather, rinse, repeat. I went through 3 of them, and finally asked for them to credit my card back, and gave up. Their support was excellent, by the way, and the issues were not their fault at all.
Other than that, I have had pretty good luck so far. But I feel for ya and hope it turns out well. FWIW, I have the Beeman SS1000 variant and it is a helluva shooter. I credit that gun with getting me back into serious airgunning, which ultimately led me to this forum and a bunch of other guns.
-
Well come to find out after raking the action out of the stock to fix the safety per their Tech guys instructions, I found a C clip missing of the safety which is also making the trigger wobble from side to side and the pin had backed out and was binding the safety, so they are sending a new stock and C clip, they said they would replace the whole gun if I wanted, but I've already cleaned and shot this one and it has a good firing cycle, I'm afraid I'd get something worse, so just the stock is being sent, I hope this one is as pretty as the last one, I really couldn't believe how easily it cracked in three places, I've seen tougher pine than this wood , the stock is thin up by the barrel though not nearly as thick as my B26, I had plans of getting it zeroed in today but that's shot in the rear end no pun intended
-
I can tell you that is not at all typical...I've had no trouble at all with the stock on my TF guns.
-
I didn't think it was typical, but my luck sucks, I'm hoping the next stock is better
-
My chime, as you my know I ordered 2 Tf's from Compasseco. the TF 67 / & the pistol TF35 , the stock was drilled of center at the for arm it was on sideways too. & for shooting it
at a 2' squire peace in card board it hit 2foot high & 1 foot + too the Right?? out of the box, sould not get it even close to middle! took it to the gun shop for a scope ! & the for arm was so far off
they were not able too put a scope on! Dissapointed, & had a ok stock it was missing some dark stain in places! but Like you I had my hopes up too high ,As for QC. as for the tf35 pistol-
at$35.00 bucks a underlever some one had put it in a clamp & left deep marks in the wood, shooting was all over the paper at 5'!! so like you I sent them back ? cost me 18.00 shipping!
Steve said the TF97 was the best gun for what I do. Targets/cans/ such, But I'm :0 ,either, with the deal, so ask for a refund -it's been about 7 day's now and no refund yet? ..
I have enough problems with the Quest! and the GRT trigger, that I just can't get set right, & shoots very dissapointing. :( it's in the box, to stay til I sale it or been it around a tree!!
Any way I fill you dissapointment , with China products as in my Scooter 150cc/ my sony camera/ a Dorcy flashlight, from sears/ ..
Today is going to be a good??. as my dear friend said, after his stroke "hey lift goes no, Be Happy!! He was 39 then.. I was 54? about when I had mine? It takes allot out of you..
But Be Happy" O well"happens?? .
Anyway Compasseco is working with you & the stock may look better?? :). Better luck in around the ? .Well I wish you good luck.

I know after seeing the gun up clowe and personal and shooting it, even if the stock hadn't cracked, if I had it to do over again I would have bought a Xisico B28 off Mike Melick but I thought I was being smart and saving 120 dollars, but when I consider that Mikes price comes with a. tune and the quality of my B26 I should have ponied up the extra money, lesson learned, I know better than to go the chep route but I had read So many good reviews on the TF89, I got the gun with plans on having it tuned with the money I was saving, and I can tell that it does shoot harder than my B26 but I don't know that it would shoot harder than a B28, my B26 is so much smoother and refined than the TF89 its like night and day, and not to mention quiter, the TF89 sounds like a .22LR compared to the B26 sounding like a air rifle, the one good thing I can say is the 20 plus shots that I got off with the TF89 at ten meters were 1 ragged hole with open sights, although my B26 will do the same at 35 yards with a 4X32 Leapers, all in all the B26 feels like a 2008 BMW and the TF89 feels like a '75 Ford truck not that its a bad thing both have they're place
-
If it sounded like a .22 LR it was probably detonating lubes in the chamber and bore from the factory. Chinese guns are notoriously "well lubed", meaning slathered in oil and grease, to survive storage and shipping. You gotta go through the barrel and outsidevery thoroughly with Goo Gone and let it dry before shooting. They may still do it a little, depending on the lubes in the power plant, but thatshould clear up quickly. The Mike Melick versions will already be taken care of, but straight from China they need attention.
The TF89can really be a better gun than your experience suggests. You guys sure had some bad ones (and that is still part of the risk of Chinese guns, so buy from a place with a good return policy). A friend that I recommended one to also had a poor one out of the box- it was the dual caliber version and you could not lock down the set screw on the barrel enough to keep it from wiggling. He ended up with a MM B26 from a member on this forum, and it was very sweet.
Hope the next one is better! There is a lot of help available here on that model if you get one worth keeping,
-
Dave I did clean the barrel inside and out with goo gone and ran dry patches through the barrel before I ever shot it, I don't have a spring compessor or the tools nessesary to tear the gun down, if I did I would do a re-lube on it myself, and put ina Maccari spring, the breech seal on my TF89 also looks as if it needs replaced, it has a spot on it that doesn't look good at all, my B26 looks to have a much thicker more durable seal, where the TF89 has what appears to be just a small O ring that you could find in any auto store? As soon as the new stock gets here I'm going to send it to Gene for him to go through it so it will be Right, I have O.C.D when it comes to my guns, cars, and my boat, everything has to be right or I'm not happy lol
-
I was waiting for an exchange and gave them a call. Apparently the lady who does exchanges and returns is out -- and has been for a few days. They hope to get everything back on track in the next day or two with processing returns/exchanges.
-
I don't know that it is fair comparing a tuned gun to one that isn't. I'm sure Mike does a great job with the B26. If you have that TF89 tuned with the money, like you said, I don't think you'd be disappointed.
-
I just talked to them two days ago and they said they would be shipping my new stock and C clip right away, I'm not exchanging the gun itsself
-
I was comparing the quality of the materials, and I'm sure after the tune it will be smoother but the stock won't be as well made and the trigger group still wobbles from side to side, I was just saying that from what I have to look at between the two the B26 is a much better made gun just my opinion
-
My stock is solid. No problems. Did you try tightening the stock screws and using locktight?
-
Just saying in case there might be a delay. They've been so good to me I hate for anyone to be dissatisfied as it sorta negates my pleasant experiences.
Also, did you shoot the B26 before having it tuned? I had my TF89 for 6 months before getting it tuned, and I'm glad I did because I can feel the difference in the trigger, cycle, power and smoothness.
-
No I didn't shoot the B26 before the lube tune, I bought ir that way off Mike, but the quality of the Xisico parts far surpasses Tech Forces from what I see, lesson learned, the tech force stock cracked like a twig, now I'm a 255lb guy that used to bench over 480lbs before I broke my back, but I wasn't being rough, it just snapped in three pieces and I was standing there with kinnling in my hands, the wood was just weak, maybe I just got a bad one, stuff happens, but when I took the action out, the trigger looks as if it was put together by a 5th grader in shop class, the B26s trigger is 100 times better, and for a new gun to have a damaged breech seal- that's just weird, Tech Force has along way to go to catch up with Xisico in my opinion
-
Well good news after all the breech seal is taken care of, I found the exact same O ring at my local auto store as did I the E clip I needed, and I bought several of each for future use, now as soon as my stock gets here I can get it put together
-
Amazing what you can find...I was looking for parts for a completely different project having to do with Photography, and what I couldn't find at the photo store I located at a weight lifting shop -- thanks to searches on the internet. Didn't ever think there might be car parts in my GUN! I may have no use for that at the moment, but great idea.
-
Seriously they had the O ring that is the exact same size as the O ring breech seal, I bought a dozen of them and a e clip assortment package, blue locktite and I got a message from UPS the new stock is supposed to be here tommorrow, I hope its as pretty as the last one but stronger, I'll bet mine had a weak spot in it, other wise it wouldn't have cracked, it was very disheartening because it was stained beautifully and the recoil pad was fitted nicely, I just hate seeing something so nice tear up, now the only other complaint is I don't really like the muzzle brake sight combo up front, since its gonna be scoped anyway I may have the barrel cut and new crown put in and have Gene make up a cool brake for it when he tunes it
-
I had Gene make a custom brake for me and I think he did an awesome job. I keep forgetting to get pictures of it up...Don't cut that barrel yet! he took my brake/sight off and replaced it. my guess is the new stock will be as good looking as the old and it just won't fail.
-
man that blows i get mines next week i hope i have better luck.
-
I'm expecting a TF89 in .22 but I ASKED for one with a bad stock because I could get a discount and I was going to replace the stock with a custom piece anyway...Not because the stock was bad normally, but because I am customizing the gun. Of the 5 TF guns that have passed through my hands (TF97, TF87, and 3 TF89s), all had solid, well-finished stocks. I don't think fretting over potentially getting a bad one is a good use of energy...
-
I'm not fretting about it, they are shipping me a new one, it should be here today, I was just suprised and dissapointed that it broke in my hands on the first day, the new one will hope fully be better, I know a gut that makes beautiful custom stocks but I don't see putting a 400 dollars stack on a 134 dollar gun, I'd rather spend money getting it tuned and set up the way I want, I was going to put a custom stock on my B26 but I bought this gun instead and put some money aside for the tune, maybe later
-
Yeah, I'm putting a $400 English Walnut custom designed stock on a $119 gun...and then a $200 custom designed muzzle brake too! That together with tuning! So my $120 bargain turns into a $900 monster...well, more if you count the scope. I know what I want, and I know what I was to start with. I'm having a ball designing it, and in the end I know how good it will be -- at the same time a lot cheaper than some totally custom guns. I've known for a while I wanted something unique...Maybe that doesn't make much sense to some... i'm worth it ;-)
-
Well I did qa penetration test using durabond( a metal with a plastic sandwitched in between the two layers of metal) we use it a lot to make floors and decks for JohnBoats, I put two pieces together and the TF89 went through both easily using a 14.3 grain hollow point pellet, the tuned B26 went through one and didn't even dent the other side, so the TF definately has more power
-
Got the new stock and its just as pretty as the other one was, blue locktited the screws and mounted the 3X12X44AO Barska air gun scope on accushot 1 piece high mounts, I was gonna use one of my 3X9X40 Leapers but I'm going to put it on another project, the dang fiber optic sight was showing up in the bottom of my sight picture so I dremeled the fiber optic part off and smoothed it out, primed and painted it, letting it set up and dry over night, tommorrow its gonna get zeroed in, my B26 is zeroed at 30 yards, I'm thinks of zeroinging the TF89 at 50 yards sice it shoots so much harder than the waB26, I was really suprised at how much harder the out of the box TF89 shoots than a tuned B26.
-
My TF .177 increased about 80fps after the tune
Glad your new stock seems to have met your expectations so far!
-
To tell the truth I have no idea what it shoots on a chrony- I don't own one, and I'm probably not going to get one, but I can tell a HUGE difference in penetration and overall power from the TF89 and the B26, the TF89 is a monster compared to the sweet mild mannered B26,the first time after cocking the TF 89 a few dozen times and then switching to the B26 I thought I'd broke my B26 because its so light and smooth compared to the force it takes to cock the TF89, but that's exactly what I wanted, A strong shooting Beast because I already had the sweet shooting B26 that's deadly accurate and smooth as butter to cock, the TF89 has some spring buzz that I'm sure Gene will take care of when he tunes it, I lightened the trigger pull considerably on the TF89 but it took away the 2 stage trigger but its a lot lighter, Gene also does a trigger tune when he tunes the TF89 so I can hardy wait, I wish the GRTIII trigger would work on the TF89 but I'm sure after Gene works on it it will be great, the TF89 is VERY hold sensitive compared to the B26 too, but I found out where it wanted to be held and was suprised when it put 5 pellets in the same hole. So its just as accurate as my B26 maybe ev en more so it just takes a different technique, it needs my hand in a different spot than the B26 and it like a tighter hold against my shoulder and follow through is a must, when the B26 is stupid easy to shhot accurately the TF89 requires consentration and the same exact technique every time or it will scatter pellets everywhere but if you do your part it will reward you with same hole accuracy
-
OK so (?) is the B26 just as accurate as a 953?
Steve said the 97 is the gun for me? for target paper/cans!
the 97 has a Lether seal? is that better then a rubber seal?
anyway what I'm asking is with the 953 you can see the prllet hit the paper, & on a ft97 steve said it's more accurate, & cheeper $ 71.00+shipping. :o
Ron
-
I don't think the TF97 is more accurate than the 953, and I own and shoot both. At least not out of the box. The TF97 has some kick and twang, and the 953 barely has any between the low power and pneumatic action. That is not to say I don't think the TF97 isn't accurate. However, right now if I was going to be buying an underlever, I'd get a TF87...yes, it is more then twice the cost, it weighs about 4 pounds more...but if you don't want to see the pellet hit the target, it has the punch/speed and the one I shot was smooth out of the box and had great accuracy. Or go for the 99 premiere @ $119 if price is an issue. The 97 is OK, but my bet is you'll have wished you got the 87 or 99 instead.
-
If your just plinking the 89 probably is ot what you want but I can't see anything more accurate if you do your part, and I'd rather have a synthetic seal than leather but that's just me, iff I wanted a great plinker I'd get a Mike Melick B26 in .177, maybe a tad overkill but talk about smooth and a great trigger
-
I look forward to shooting a tuned B26. You only hear great things about them. You are probably right about it for plinking if all I hear is true!
-
They have a lot more power than a strictly plinking gun but SMOOTH is the one word that describes a B26, I love the trigger more than the triggers on my Savage rifles and that's saying a lot, the .177 B26 would be a good all around gun for plinking and could still handle pest, and they cock like butter, truely a all day shooter
