As we drove by the international airport here in Japan, my wife made a comment about old people being paid to get rid of birds at the airport. After saying "Get me that job!", I starting wondering, does anyone know of people who actually do this, I mean, is it a real job in the states?

Many years ago in Boston the was a crash caused by birds, - and Electra I believe. At the time I had a friend on the airport "Crash Crew" - and after that crash it became their job to drive a pick-up to about the end of any runway that had birds on it, - which was fairly often. They carried a shot-gun that fired what looked like a huge firecracker, - thing made one hell of a bang. I went with him one time, - and we'd pull off onto a turn-out when a large plane was landing or taking off. Fortunately/thankfully we always got a call from the Boston tower in time to get to a turn-off. One British Airways coming in was spraying tiny fuel droplets - looked like a heavy mist coming down, and smelled terrible. - They probably have a different method today, but I'm sure some attempt to control birds at airports is being made. - (I doubt they're looking for someone with a pellet gun though - unfortunately) - You might Google "airport bird control" or something, - best of luck.
