ok this is a old question but I'm thinking of moving to 22, is the wisper better than the cfx? accuracy?, fps? or would I just be better to stay with my 177 Whisper?
remember opinions are like elbows, most of us have one or two and, they are always worth what they cost! LOL
-
actually in theory the cfx is a fixed barrel which is supposed to be more accurate the only .22cfx from what i know is the royale sold overseas.but dont quote me on that
-
ok, I didn't check b4 posting, what are the fps of wisper 22 vs wisper 177 lead?
-
power wise they should be the same...
But the CFX dose tend to have a slit air leak
at the breech....
the CFX will tend to be more accuate...
If you get a chance to see a slow motton vid of a brake
barrel breech they flick slightly when fired...
don't know whats going on over there..We can buy the
CFX here in .177 & .22 still...wood or plastic stock..

"ok, I didn't check b4 posting, what are the fps of wisper 22 vs wisper 177 lead?" ............
Since I needed more pellets and Pyramyd was also having a sale on the F-1 Chrony ($77.92, plus 10% off), I pressed the button last week... a few times. :D
For what it's worth, even though it's not the factory spring, or tuned, these numbers are problaly not too much differant than when it had the factory spring in .... someday I may try swapping the spring back in.

the royale or the cfx is a synth stock sold in the us only as a .177 cal the royale sold both as a 177/.22 cal in wood or synth is overseas i was thinking on getting one before i heard about issues with the breach but look on youtube they are videos on the accuracy of the cfx from what i hear the whisperer with a good tune and trigger is very accurate look on the hunting gate right now im debating on the falcon hunter.22/the crosman npss/and the extreme socom but the socom bummer is it only comes .177 cal which is not good for me good luck and the folks here will help you out.

I am partial to the whisper due to the fact that is lighter and easier (read faster) to reload. I find it very accurate, but given the chance i would purchase it again in .177 caliber. The flatter trajectory allows farther precise shots and as you already know, a head shot is a headshot, is a headshot. .22 or .177.
mine actually shoots RWS hobbies 11.9 gr at 780ish fps... daisy wadcutters at 755 fps.
CFX is cool and quircky... but not as practical.
my .02

Pyramyd Air is listing the CFX Royale in .22 now. Of course, you should check to see if it is in stock. Only offered in that caliber as the Royale. Why not in synthetic I don't know. Not like there wouldn't be a market for it. Perhaps more so than for the Royale which is about $70 more (and I'm not a big fan of Gamo's beech stocks).
-
wow a month ago they didnt have any royals for sale in the usa???or i must of over looked that :0

If your wanting to move to .22 the main reason most people move to larger calibers are because they tend to carry more down range energy to the target, I don't own a Gamo but if I'm not mistaken they "advertise" the .22 Whisper at 950FPS of course that's with a lightweight pellet like the pba raptor the same way they advetise the .177 at 1200FPS any air rifle shooting that fast isn't going to be very accurate at any distance beyond 25 yards or so because the pellet will be going from supersonic to subsonic and will be affected by the change, I only own .22 air rifles because I'd rather have more down range energy and accuracy than just speed. Unless your shooting a PCP with enough power to push a pellet that fast there is no point in trying to go supersonic with a springer in my opinion.
-
950 in .22 out of a springer is asking for quite a lot. Maybe a really hopped up 1250. And that would be lead, since an alloy pellet isn't worth a darn and will only damage whatever you're shooting them out of. The .22 in the CFX is nice because those tend to be hard to load (especially if you are in the field) and the .22 seems easier to handle. I would think both guns are on a par, power-wise.
Over the speed of sound and the diablo pellet becomes rather unstable. The PCP guns that exceed 1100fps are shooting more bullet-like pellets which handle trans-sonic shock better.
-
The top of the 22 Whisper reciever is labled, "900fps with PBA. 750 with lead." .
Mine averages 887 with Raptors. Correcting for altitude puts them at about 900fps equivelent to sea level..... but they're not accurate worth a darn in this gun.
None of the lead pellets I've tried come close to 700fps - even correcting for altitude.

Typically the CFX .22 would have less power than the normal S1K designed power plants which are still the work horse powerplants that Gamo uses in 90 percent of there air guns. You could say that you will have something like a 50 fps lower average with the CFX .22 than lets say a Whisper .22. Reason being is that the rotary breech o'ring seal is not positive and air does and will pass through it.
This is one of the reason I elect not to tune the Gamo CFX. The issue is replacing the small o'ring seal around the rotary breech and pushing up into place in the front of the action. Sometime it takes several tries along with several o'rings to get the numbers on the final test to be within the norm. Just a very time consuming job and sometime it could take me almost all day to get one right.
-
My CFX .22 hurls SuperDomes at just over 700 fps. That is the most accurate/highest fps "real" pellet I've tried. It also likes the Predators really well, but the fps is less. I bag branch rats with the Predators, as they are so expensive to use but for hunting.
-
just ordered a whisperer should be sweet.

I purchased a beech .22 cfx royale from PA no problems yet,but then it's not been tuned either, just breaking it in with a bush 3-9X32 for now
