: Camping beer choices...Yup, I said beer,,,,,
: HILMAN76 October 28, 2009, 07:52:35 PM

Alright folks, I’m working the midnight shifts and am bored out my skull, so I thought I’d start a budget beer thread. This weekend I’m going camping out on the Big Cypress in the Everglades and plan on my ritual of binge drinking, barbequing , and fishing. I usually take my tried and true budget beers since I don’t want to spend a small fortune on the usual mid priced brews.

My go to budget beers are #1 Keystone light, and my #2 is Natural light.

Red Dog use to be my #1 but can’t find it here any more(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-frown.gif)

Ifind myself buyingKeystone Light on most pay days, when I can spring for Bud light, Miller lite, or Coors Light for a few $$ more...

Keystone taste just like Coors light,H2o (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif)..can’t beat it on a hot day.

So I ask, what’s your favorite lower priced budget American beer?

Old Milwaukee, Natural Light, Keystone, Schlitz, Milwaukee’s best, Busch, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Miller High Life, Schaefer.......Or your local brandI havent heard of......

I only drink budget beer when my brother visits, the good stuff is wasted on him :-).  Then it's Busch.  Otherwise I prefer micro brews, or in the case of Red Hook, pseudo micro brews :-).  Now if I'm feeling especially flush, I'll hit our local brew pub, they put up some great beers, and my wife even says that since they are unpasteurized, they qualify as health food.  How sweet is that ;-)?  Later.

When I was young, I grew up on Schmitz, Shaffer and Bud, and I drank them to be "one of the guys", since I didn't like any of them !

Now I drink a cold one on HOT summer days when one is needed, about a six pack a year, so I can afford to drink what I really like, now Miller is the cheapest American beer that I can stomach, and I prefer DAB light and dark, Spetzen light and dark, Cuing Sow, and Tenant ! They are more expensive, but worth it to me ! No headaches, and they have a good fullbeer taste.

I'm American through and through, but I haven't found a beer made here in America that is worth drinking !

Pardon my spelling on the beers, lol

Bill

What was it Monty Python's Eric Idle said about American beers (especially the light ones) -- "like making love in a canoe . . . xxxxing close to water"
PBR is a good choice.

Are you looking for volume so you can just keep popping them all day, or are you looking for something that will get you a little blotto?

Steel Reserve 211 is cheap and packs a bit of a punch. Each beer is worth 2 (8% ABV), and it costs about what a Labatts would. Bonus is you can take half the weight and still get as smashed. Really good if you plan any hiking.

If you are considering strictly volume, I'd look into getting a beer ball. These are plastic kegs that hold about 5 gallons (about 50 beers). They used to be ridiculously cheap.

You might want to look into this: http://www.tinsel.org/beer/

Rolling Rock's not too exp around here, and will deff get the job done without feeling too horrible afterwards

OHHHHH BOYYYY! Steel reserve, Thats what I drank at night when I really needed to forget what was bothering me that day...

Natural ice and steel reserve were my gut rot choices on stressfull days(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-frown.gif) 2 or 3 steel reserve tall boys is all it took(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-yell.gif)

Now Im in my 30's and like the whole quantity but not get ripped buzz.Thats why I stick to Keystone Light and Natural Light.

I can pound a few and not get loopy or retarded after a 12 pack or more.(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif)

I really use to like Miller High Life, but then it started to really give me the beer farts or squirts.(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-frown.gif)(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-frown.gif) NO FUN!

I mostly drink like an animal when im out camping...It helps me HOWL LIKE A CAYOTE at night. (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif)

I agree, Keystone Light - not bad, and it is really cheap.
But mostly, I buy Corona at Costco, $24 a case.

: raterminator October 29, 2009, 02:16:15 PM
How cheap is cheap?
$24.99 for a case of two dozen Beck’s is good? That’s what I prefer. In some places here in NY, six pack of the same beer would cost you $12, so $25 for 24 sounds good to me.

I usually only drink beer in the summer time . I drink a LOT of beer when camping. Kokanee, Labats, Fosters, Rolling Rock. But my favorite beer is Michelob. NOT ULTRA!!!! But it is harder to find around here.

IIRC, the Keystone Light is sold in 30 packs for $19. That's what I call cheap.
I agree, imported beer at $25 a case is a buy, too.
: Re: Camping beer choices...Yup, I said beer,,,,,
: Big_Bill October 30, 2009, 05:50:34 AM

Gosh ! A case of beer would last me two to three years, it would go bad !

I hope that they never stop selling beer in a 6 pack !!!!!

Windixie and Publix is more expensive than my Quickie mart. My quickie mart has the 18 packs at $10.99 for the Keystone light. They sell the Busch at $10.99 also. It seems my big chain super markets aren't that cheap when selling beer unless its a big sale, but the corner quickie mart always has the same price,$10.99.(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif)

Back in the early 70's I used to drink a lot of Genesee. You could buy a case(24) for $3.99 !!! I was really on a tight budget, so that was the beer of choice. They still brew it, but I'll have to look to see how much it is now.   "Oh, Oh say can you Genesee".

I can't believe I almost missed this thread. THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN CHEAP BEER when camping. No one is around to see whether or not you have your little pinky stuck out or to belittle you for not splurging for a beer with a foreign sounding name or one that was just advertised recently to get you to buy it and be "Cool."

Natty Light for me. It used to be Busch until I moved to Louisiana and found out that it is apparently a high dollar beer over here??? It was the other way around in Texas, Busch-cheap, Natty Light 'not as cheap.'

I tried Keystone but the cans just didn't 'feel' right. They must be made with a lower grade aluminum or something?? Natty fits the hand and feels right, kinda like a good airgun I guess.....

Another thing I noticed(Big Bill, don't try this at home), I can drink one almost complete and eventually I will leave it on an unknown flat spot only to find it later, AFTER opening another one, and I don't get mad because I let it get hot and wasted it. I suspect Big Bill would have some 'vintage' beer laying around if he was to dive off into number 4 in a single day.

Cheers!

Big Bill would make the perfect designated driver, in our group the designated driver gets anything they want to eat and unlimited sodas to drink at the pub or bar.It saves us from DUI's and hurting someone drinking and driving..(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif)

I have to say beer snobs get a bad rap. While I would be first in line to spend $10 on a special imperial porter, I'd also be last to turn down a flatt labatts. There is a difference between appreciating and lacking any tolerance. I appreciate the fine stuff...and am fine drinking anything (unless it came out of the anus of some damned animal). I originally asked about the target. Steel reserve was about as low as I think someone might go to get a buzz...doesn't mean it sucks.

I hate beer snobs and gun snobs...I think either has to prove the truth. There are cheap beers that do the job, and fine beers that do not much different. Likewise, my chinese guns do mostly what any Euro gun will...I'd NEVER *_*_*_*_*_* on somone that liked a Keystone when that is what they want. I've downed quite a few of them myself...and I'd never regret them.

There is a place for everything.

Michelob is always good!

Or you can go for a few 40oz bottles of Old English, Colt 45, Crazy Horse etc... Those are pretty good until they get warm.
Mickey's is good too. It's a little pricey, but Amstel Light is a REALLY good beer that doesn't taste like a lite beer.

I prefer the heavier microbrew or Euro stuff though. Pyramid Ale, Bass, Guiness (with vanilla ice cream!) , Old Speckled Hen, Boddington's, Long Board...THOSE are some of my favorites!
