: Ordered a QB78 Deluxe
: Brutuz October 30, 2009, 11:27:58 AM

Have been thinking abt ordering a QB78 for a while, wanted the iron sight version, can't get it in the Netherlands so I ordered a Deluxe.

Hope to replace the truglo sight with the iron sights.

First things first though, a CharlieDaTuna sealkit from Bob (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif)

Hope to post some pics next week.

The TruGlo sights are actually pretty good! Especially in low light situations for hunting. I also fin them easier to use than standard irons against a solid black background target.

I don't doubt that, it's just that I'm after the vintage look.

First things first, load powerlets, a few shots to clean the internals, shot a few felt pads and finally got to shoot some pellets.

Loading, cocking, shooting, all went as I had hoped for. Accurate too. After abt 60 shots I could hear a drop in power, shot abt 15 times more and ran a few felt pads again and then it was empty.

After I bought and shot the CB9 earlier this year I was happy, this QB78 really puts a smile on my face.

Will take it apart tonight to tweak it according to all the tips I've got.

Congrats with your new toy. Which caliber did you get. I got mine 2 years ago and she's now shooting low 700's with CPHP 14.3. She gets loud mouthed from the power mod so I had to make a shinny thingy for the muzzle from TWACKK to pftt. I still get 30 power shots bulked and about 40 on 2 carts. A drop of 30wt ND oil every tin/500 shots  keeps her leak free.

Tnx guys.

Ordered a .22 but those weren't available anymore so accepted a .177.

Due to lack of time I only replaced the breech seal and trigger spring tonight.

I love it!!! I got a .22 also that loves shooting hobbies at 540 fps. she 's done rabbits at 35 yards. All deburring was done as well as replacement of factory seal. at 20 yards she stacks them in a little ragged hole... I also have it's more practical sister, the 79 in .177. that one i did work the seals and also tuned it. she shoots crow mags (8.8 gr) in to a penny sized hole at 30 yards!!! and propels them to 645 fps. they are lovely rifles. I am also fortunately enough to own a Mac 1 tuned crosman 167 (1956) in perfect condition. that one shoots them jsb at 780 fps... she does not hunt anymore... fear of field wear. But they all hang proudly together. Great choice of rifle.

Made a vid about the .177 QB78, giving Bob credit for the Tune-up Parts Kit and the board credit for the targets I used.

Fitted a do it yourself dove tail rail on the QB and then attached my Airforce bipod, much better compared to the clamp on bipod I've got.

Visited a friend this afternoon. The one with the tuned high power Talon SS pistol. He's got an indoor 12 meter range.

After adjusting the scope shooting 5 bull paper targets I managed to keep them all within the black!

When I got home I took a few pics:

Enlarged the probe hole yesterday, very carefully, using a cone shaped dremel grinding stone, manual first to check, next used it in the dremel itself, lowest power mode, switching on/off briefly.

Preloaded the spring today and did some shooting.

Only preloaded 0.20", cocking takes e bit more effort, will try 0.25" as recommended by tuners.

No chrony available but it feels like 600+ fps, maybe even the 650 factory spec.

Hmzzzz, took it apart again, washers inside isn't the best idea I was told.

Took a pic of the probe and fitted a new o-ring

Also replaced the breech seal, lucky I got two of those. The first didn't look in the best shape after taking the rifle apart a couple of times.

Removed the washers, took a standard Crosman hammerspring, clipped it, compressed almost the 0.25” tuners recommend, and guess what, works like a charm.

The standard QB spring cannot slide over the Crosman spring.

Here's a pic:

Result:

Checked the H&N holes I shot before inserting the extra hammerspring

It barks a bit more too.

Pitty I don't have a chrony.

That was great Brutuz, - liked the music, and the shooting wasn't too bad either. Nice going, ... ;)

Thanks North Pack (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif)

Still have to polish the friction parts of the trigger and practice more @ 10 meters.

Did gather the funds to order a chrony so there will be another QB78 vid online one of these days.

Yessssss

I've got a Chrony 8)

Here are the results

(RAF / rate of fire)

Do need an indoor light fixture for shooting after dark..

Will take it apart again and pollish again, this time using a powertool.

Will also remove the extra piece of hammerspring to check the difference.

Are you considering a valve mod? I drilled 4 holes in front of the valve, notched washer  and tapered the valve stem. I kept the plunger just tapered it too so I can switch from bulked to carts without pulling the valve for switching. I can still get 30 bulked and 40 carts shooting high 6's and low 7's on 14.3 CPHPs. Got really loud so I fixed her.

: Brutuz November 12, 2009, 07:50:00 PM
I've seen the valve mod and am tempted but will not mod it for the time being.

Last night's string had a few errors due to bad lighting.

Made my own light fixture using plain 40W bulbs and a piece of aluminium strip.

Did a 16 shot string last night so it was still charged with CO2, had a few errors first emptying last nights powerlets but soon figured the height of some shots was causing that.

Emptied the gun, loaded 2 new powerlets, dry fired twice and had dinner.

After dinner I shot this error-free 50 string using the 7.1 grain H&N Hollowpoints:

(No alterations on QB, only had time to make the light fixture)

Could a .177 QB78 owner please comment on the performance?

Two 10 shot targets to show the grouping and 10 shots on the Chrony using a more common grain pellet:
