: 50 minute,rifle rest
: paul March 17, 2007, 08:45:11 AM
I made this rest today at work,to show the lossy group,i get, with my stock, hard to sqweeze trigger. But the rest does work great
I may do a mod to it soon, but no hurry,i used the vice grip, only because they were available fast, but may change later on,my new trigger will be here soon, and this set up
will be more enjoyable to use. After 6 shots,i called it quits today.

Paul, that's a cool rifle rest:) and I'm sure as you go along you'll be doing mod's to it. As for the target...we've all been there buddy, you'll get a ragged center.:) Is that a CAT yellow paint job on the rest;0.Ed

Today i tried out my new GRT 3,after a couple of practice shots to feel new trigger,i set target at 22yd. same as yesterday ,their was a strong wind, blowing left to right so,i did not adjust scope ,just want to try trigger .
I shot 15 shots and i,m am very, very impressed,i shot a tennis ball about 8 times, the raptor would penetrate ,but lodge half way thru on other side., Thanks Bob for this big improvement,Paul

Paul, I do not know how long  you have been shooting springers, but most of us will tell you that you will not get great shots with a rigged rifle rest like you have there.. Don't take me wrong but a springer needs breathing room because of the reverse recoil.. The rest you made would work great with a powder gun though.. And that rest you made is very nice for the amount of time you spent on it..

This is only my opinion and others may want to chime in on this..:)

As Gene said buddy, those springer's are finicky but if you could customize a flat rest on top of your (Y) SUPPORT'S. Put sand bag's or pouch's filled with rice , they make a good rest. The gun snuggle's in but not tight so it can't recoil freely. You've got a good start and as I said in my earler reply, you'll be doing mod's to it. Ed

I appreciate both Gene and Shadows help,i have been hunting for 50 years, first 20 with firearms, the rest with bow,the springer was just taking up 10 years ago but not that much interest ,untill a friend of a friend said he was squirrel hunting with airgun,a shadow by gamo, well i thought that would be great to hunt squirrels were i bow hunt,i would never use a powder gun in my bow woods, after getting viper,i found a whole new way of hunting, lol.
My rest will be used for sight-in  muzzleloader, but will mod.by making 2 new rice bag ,removable mounts for rest, so thanks for your advice, thats why i,m here,to learn. Paul

I am glad you did not take offense to my post Paul.. Sometimes I do not come accross in a positive way but I do mean well...:) So now we know you are an avid hunter, we will be expecting some picks of your dinner's...:)

I love to shoot and sometimes I hunt for small game.. I have a couple of the Shadow's and love shooting them.. Soon you will be completly addicted to springers and will have a whole closet full of them.. hehe

Good Luck and Welcome To a Great Place...:)

LOL gene, Ive never taken a post from you the wrong way.. well there was one post but if I remeber it was my mistake(mentioning a forbidden item in the states) so no harm no foul :)  anyhooooo
Thats a very nice rest indeed, but id agree with gene and shadow on that one also. They need some room to recoil. I have a shadow sport and I tryed my sand bag rest when I first got it, it was shooting groups like yours. then I had it rest nicely in my sholder and a light palm on the forearm. Vola, now I can shoot a quarter at 30 yards (if i can hold it steady enough) But thats another issue..
